UNPRECEDENTED-The only story on ALL cable news this week: "CBS BIAS"
Has there EVER been a time where a bunch of supposed NEWS channels gave this much air time to tearing down another news channel?

I know this kind of thing used to go on betweeen rival newspapers...

So what I'm wondering is - instead of just sitting back and defending the stupid memos, why doesn't CBS fight fire with FIRE?

First, do some stories about the "new cult phenomenon" "OUTFOXED", then spin THAT into a continuing series on how Fox has caused ALL the cable news channels to try to out-nazi each other.

And since the O'Liely's, the Scarborough's, theHume's and the in Sannity's are all taking aim at Rather's supposed lack of "journalistic integrity", why not do a retrospective on the jingoistic fervor that characterized TV news in the spring of 2003, and ALL the stories they either ignored or distorted that cast massive doubt on all the WMD claims at the time.

Fox News is a freaking GOLD MINE of distortions, spinning, and outright lies.

The gauntlet has been thrown by these scum cable channels. CBS had better start fighting back, or I believe there will no longer even be a semblance of balance in our news media anymore.

1. Investigative journalism, at least in the mainstream..
..is dead. This is an example. Try to do anything against Republicans or the corporate infrastructure and you'll be destroyed if you rely on any sort of advertising to survive.

10. Dan rather talked about being "necklaced"
and he was totally right. He's being necklaced as we speak.

2. kick.
Is this a dumb idea?

Many have sent CBS letters of supports - shouldn't this approach be encouraged?

If CBS is raked over the coals over one POSSIBLE, as-yet-unproven mistake, shouldn't they expose Fox et al's mountains of outright lies and distortions?

4. this is not about the memos, it is about getting a competitive edge over
another network.

As long as the story stays alive, people will hear about bush being AWOL.

11. me neither. It's the scariest thing about the times we live in
With all the crimes of Bushco, every journalist in the country should be running around with their hair on fire.

Instead we have them attacking Dan Rather.

It's the most bizarre, fucked up word we currently live in.

"History tells us that the rise of militant fascism in Germany during the 1930s did not draw worried notice from European news outlets - radio and newspapers - because those media entities were owned by chemical and steel interests that were reaping the profits from Germany's explosive military buildup. Only when it was too late did the alarm bell begin to sound. This we call a conflict of interest, and a damned deadly one."
From "The Greatest Sedition is Silence," by William Rivers Pitt, page 122.

13. My e-mail to CBS
Dear CBS News,

I have e-mailed twice before to express my thanks for the courage the CBS Evening News and 60 Minutes have displayed in covering the Bush AWOL scandal. I had hoped that CBS would be an example to the other news networks, particularly the cable news networks that have displayed such outright conservative bias over the last several years. Apparently, however, my hopes have been in vain.

Unfortunately, the only response the other news organizations can muster is to heap baseless accusations of bias on CBS, particularly on Dan Rather. I must say that I am beyond sickened by the hypocrisy of these claims, not to mention the way they have dodged the real question of Bush's service in the TANG, in favor of obsessing over the authenticity of a few memos which make up only part of the story, as any objective person can see.

Considering the sources of these accusations of bias, especially Fox News and CNN, there is every justification for CBS to reciprocate, and investigate the very deep-seated and readily apparent biases of these respective news organizations, and others like them. The American people need to see that these media corporations, by and large, are skewing the truth so badly as to be unrecognizable from reality, and I think a lot of Americans would avidly watch a report detailing it.

Thank you,

antigone

14. Yup. Rove's a dope, right Team Kerry folks?
Had no clue the cable folks would play up the memo "controversy" just to fuck with CBS.

Plus, it was waaaaaaaay to risky to just have someone from the campaign on day one say, "We don't know anything about the memos. They may be real. They may be fake. But one thing we do know is that wierd things happen when Karl Rove is running campoaigns."

Rove; What!! I'm insulted!!! That is low!!!

Media: We give rove's response big play.

Dems: Bugs, debate tapes, segretti, memos. buckhead, FL in 2000.

Rove gets sucked into story.

'Course he knew, like he knew there would be no counterattack on the swiftboats, that that would never happen.
