One DUer's Frustration
I joined DU in the run up the Iraq invasion. It was like two different worlds, getting the truth at DU, while watching the mainstream media bang the drums of war ("Bush made the case for war!" "The Personification of Crediblity!" -- that latter quote was from Terrance Smith on PBS News Hour after Powell's UN speach).

Then came the long, painful unfolding of the greatest foreign policy disaster probably in all of American history. Slowly, the polls showed W's approval rating dropping, and a growing number saying "it wasn't worth it".

But now, with the situation so incredibly spiraling down into total chaos over there, it seems people are now disconnecitng from reality. The numbers don't show a continuation in that erosion of support for this war. If anything, I think it's inched up over the past month.

This election hinges on whether people realize that Iraq is a huge disaster and we MUST have a regime change HERE to even have a chance at extricating us from this situation.

2. Afghanistan was the undoing of the Soviet Union.
Iraq may be our Afghanistan.

People should know that. We have to tell them.

3. The undoing of the US is the republican party. Only time will tell
if they have completely destroyed this country, the creeps. Iraq is just like Afghanistan - a disaster. I can't believe that after what we went through with Vietnam the people in this country think * is doing a good job with Iraq. This time forget the second leutents for the trial - go right to the top and put all of bushco on trial.

4. the last week of Iraq tragedies
have yet to be reflected in the polls. The polls are now just beginning to show that bush's post-convention bounce is gone. Give it another week, possibly two, for the final unraveling in Iraq to sink into the public consciousness and take hold.

6. We are a nation in COMPLETE DENIAL!
When confronted with reality, we just go to our "happy place", whether it's consumerism, hatred, religion or jingoism.

7. When what you're doing
isn't working stop doing it. Unfortunately some people just figure that they have to "stay the course" or whatever the soundbite for stubborn, unmoving stupidity is today.
American's HATE to be wrong. Seriously, they hate it. And they sure as hell hate being showed up by some third world sand trap. So they will blindly continue on the worst possilbe course because anything else would be failure in their minds. So they will rally round their flag and their fearless leader no matter how pointless and stupid it is.

Thing is, we've already failed. Doing more of the same won't make a bit of difference. We are screwed if Bush wins. He'll backarupt this country to prove his point. He is a stubborn, immature player and he doesn't get it that all the bombs in the world won't make these people like us, respect us or bow down to us.

8. It's reached the point where the fact that the entire administration LIED
TO GET THEIR PNAC WAR isn't disputed.
One is either with W or against W. The truth has been discounted with these traitors.
