Do you watch cspan? If you don't, you should
I was watching last night, it was a forum on the military and General Richard Cody was the speaker, it was about changing the army to deal with Iraq as a long term on going conflict. There were a lot of details in his presentation that you will never ge from the media. Basically he said that the us military wasn't ready for this new type of conflict and he laid out what they plan to do to adjust. One of the plans is to "Recruit" 30,000 new troops . He also talked about the daily attacks on the troops, up to 80 a day now. IED attacks that are killing or making amputees of the troops. "We are not in front of this enemy". It's worth watching, he's the Vice undersecretary for the army and there was very little spin. After i got done watching and i thought about all that i had heard from him it made me realize that there really is no way to win any kind of peace or democracy at all, it's not possible.

1. Thanks for the heads up.
A new administration is our only hope to get those 30,000 "recruits" from other countries. I can't get over how selfish the coWard-in-chief's supporters are: They love war as long as they or their loved ones don't have to do the fighting. They're too hard-hearted to care that the troops are endlessly in a hopeless quagmire or that others will be sent in harm's way. Wake up, America!

3. If the objective is positive, why all the destruction?
Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 11:48 AM by teryang
War is the exchange of negative values. We are spending at peak Vietnam levels as in Vietnam to achieve political defeat.

One could easily withdraw and expend a lesser amount of resources transferring positive values, namely capital, to back the horse or horses of our choosing. If such was not a viable strategy, we could use a much smaller amount of capital to coopt and subvert the regime that emerges on top. Isn't this how it is always done?

This administration is using the proverbial shotgun to kill a bothersome fly. In the process both nations are being bled white. The disproportionality of our response results in and prolongs unnecessary conflict and untold human tragedy. The negative leverage we are experiencing in the asymetric conflict is a matter of indifference to the administration who calculate profit based upon "throughput." Our regime exploits the war to shore up its failing legitimacy with faux patriotism. The reward is great for its energy and defense contractor supporters. The reward is great for the medical, insurance, and other corporate sectors who undermine the tax and legal system at the expense of the individual while the country is distracted by war. The reward is illusory for the millions of religious fundamentalists who don't have a clue about the machiavellian nature of their government or their religious leadership.
