I just had an interesting protest idea, how does this sound?
let's say you could round up about 20 - 30 volunteers (might need more) to first construct 1030 (or whatever the number is at the time) correctly sized white wooden crosses, like those found in military graveyards.
Then like a flash mob they all meet at an agreed upon destination like a park or a field in view of a freeway or something like that and construct a graveyard using all the crosses. I think seeing the sheer number of crosses would make an impression on a passerby.
Has this been done before?
Or another idea. I like freeways I guess but, line them all up on the shoulder of a freeway with about 10 feet spacing between each. Perhaps number each one 1 to 1030. That display would stretch for almost 2 miles!
and a lot of people needed. Great thought, but trying to get that many people together and KEEPING them together long enough to complete the task would be rough.
I'll have to think about the practicalities for my particular locale, but I love the way your imagination is exploring possibilities. Please share more as they come to you.
6. Yeah it seems manageable when you think of it that way.
Of course organizing 100 people is difficult unless you already have an organization put together.
I like the ideas of the "legal" means of doing it, but if it isn't highly visible it wouldn't be very useful.
I more like the perhaps not so legal methods better. The more I think about lining them up on a busy freeway the more I like it. think about the guy who comes across it seeing the first cross with the number one on it and then watching the numbers fly by every ten feet for 2 miles.
If the person is stuck in slow moving traffic all the better as he/she is exposed to the display even longer.
I'm going to see if I can find someone with some land so that they won't get removed as illegal. I'm also thinking that quickly stapled pine slats stapled together would serve the purpose. They could even be spray painted once in the ground for greater effieciency.
5. I noticed one of the Catholic Churches in my town did
that on their lawn as a memorial to aborted babies. I see no reason not to do the same for the fully grown human soldiers killed in Iraq. Maybe a liberal Church might go for this on their front lawn. This way it would take a court action to make them take the display down instead of the police claiming vandalism on public property.
