Think about it ... if you are Iran you have watched the US invade your bitter enemy with whom you fought for 8 (I think) years, and depose the government in a matter of weeks.

You know the US hates you too. Everyone remembers the hostage crisis, plus the Bush Admin names you in the "Axis of Evil". You know the only reason the US hasn't come down harder on North Korea is because they already have nukes.

What would you do? I think I would feel like attack was inevitable and it was vital to my survival to get a bomb no matter what. I'd feel like I owed it to my people.

So now what? What does it all mean? Will Irael attack them before it happens and precipitate an all-out Middle East War? What about Pakistan's nukes? That brings India up.

Guys, when I think about the future I get very, very nervous.

3. Starting with us????
You think the Irans and North Koreas of the world will disarm if we disarm first?? Have we learned nothing from the Cold War?? Totalitarian governments don't work that way.

4. well, it would take us quite some time. diplomacy is complex, nuanced...

not all in life can be boiled down to highnoon analogies, no need to be all panic and manic. try to lay off the kool-aid.

by simply starting and committing to eliminate our own WMD's, it would go along way to establishing credibility and progress. of course we would be doing it in conjunction with NK and others, not just us doing it all at once first.

besides, there's no sense in having them. there is simply no acceptable excuse for using them, in retaliation or otherwise. it is an undefendable act, never justifiable in this day and age, with our other conventional weapons and their technology, power, reach, etc...

2. Clearly
You point out the situation nicely. We are making NO inroads to disarmament or even diplomacy in these matters. Im a bit on edge when I think of it too.
