Have you PHONE BANKED or PRECINCT WALKED yet?
Yes or No, and how many hours?

I spent three hours precinct walking three weekends ago, and I've probably phone banked for over 20 hours so far (and that's just since the Democratic Convention) and I plan to do much more.

How about you?

1. Hell yes!!
Done 'em both and it's very effective. Now we're really pushing the vote-by-mail here in AZ so I just got a new list of low efficacy Dems in my neighborhood. I'll be getting on that tomorrow. Also, I've been registering new voters every weekend at the local library. We usually average 10-12 (all for Kerry) in 2-3 hours. This Saturday one of the Kerry daughters (not sure which one) will be at the ASU game. We're doing a tailgate/voter registration there.

2. I'm painfully disabled. My contribution is to DONATE $$$$
And write letters to EVERYONE. I just came from another thread where I asked about having registration forms at home with me...they told me yes I can do that.

I am raising my 16 yr. old g.son. I've made it abundantly clear that he needs to tell his older friends to vote.. Now, I want the actual forms at hand for when they come around...or if I can get the school to allow it...GET THESE YOUNG FOLKS TO REGISTER. Plus, get the word out to them about how this election will affect them in the most direct ways: DRAFT

Hubby is also in an elec. wheelchair. He has committed to taking it to the streets much more forcefully.

9. Not sure how much time...
I spent two weeks in Milwaukee this summer with the League of Conservation Voters where I precinct-walked three-four hours a day on average. Went to all houses in "swing" neighborhoods not knowing whether the occupant would be Repug, Dem, friendly, psychotic, etc.- but said what I could to push the LCV's endorsement of Kerry. Very fun, very memorable experience... Made some phone calls, but those were to Dems and others who had indicated support for Kerry trying to get them to volunteer to canvass. Doing both is a very satisfying experience. I'm shy as hell and don't know how persuasive I am but I figure a marginally effective campaigner is better than no campaigner at all! I'm planning on going to a swing state and doing some more of this once I can get all the arrangements taken care of; it's taking longer than I'd expected.

10. Yup-not sure of numbers
Otero County, New Mexico is a very conservative county (Holloman AFB, home of the Stealths). I have phone banked for Kerry and Gary King, running against RW US Rep Stevan Pearce; walked for a local candidate; registered voters wherever I can. This weekend we are manning the NAACP voter registration booth at a local jazz & blues festival. My fiance is the core volunteer at Dem HQ...and he initially supported Bush.
And we are just getting fired up!

11. Yep, I've done both
I spend a minimum of twenty hours a week at the headquarters and do phone banking every evening. I've done just about everything including cleaning the toilet and will continue working until we flush bush down the drain.

12. Yes to both
Probably total of 8 hours of canvassing and 3 hours of phone banking.

But I have only begun to fight.

13. Tomorrow
I got a call from Kerry/Edwards headquarters here and will attend a training seminar tomorrow. So far I've only contributed money. I'm somewhat limited in what I can do because of the care my autistic son needs. During the McBide campaign I had trouble making it to street corner meetings and ended up standing by myself on a nearby street corner, holding up my sign any time I got a chance. I got so many thumbs up, I still can't figure out what happened back then.

15. Thank you PPP!
I have been working 3 days a week at the local Kerry campaign office. One of my jobs is to recruit people to work the phone banks. It is very frustrating to hear people whine that they don't have time, or can't they just get a yard sign.

A lot of people call and complain on the phone and ask why we aren't doing more. I explain that with the exception of one person, the entire office is run by VOLUNTEERS! Kerry is OUR candidate, and it is OUR campaign. It will take all of us to win this election.

Please don't wait for someone to call you, take the initiative and CALL today to volunteer. (I do NOT recommend using the official Kerry website to sign-up, because there is a delay in getting this info filtered down to the local level.)

In PA, you can go here to get the location and phone numbers for all of the local campaign offices.

16. Yes, I'm running the phone bank
in my county, and our first canvass is next weekend, then every other weekend after that.

Our phone results here in SW MO (Asscroft country) lead me to believe its not so bad for Kerry here as the media makes it seem.

17. I'm Making A Different Contribution...
Although I was planning to phone bank this weekend and I HAVE walked two precincts... I've only put in 5 hours. HOWEVER, I've put in easily 20 hours hunting up new volunteers.

Folks who are immobile or disabled might want to consider this. Pulling people out of the woodwork to volunteer is important work.

There are hundreds of Yahoo groups with listservs which reach hundreds and thousands of people. I have joined many of the public ones both nationally AND in my area, and contacted about SEVENTY others in my state which are likely to be pro-Kerry, (gay, Dem, African-American, NAACP, Teamsters, Amnesty, Greenpeace, Conservation Voters, PETA (maybe - Edwards has a HORRIBLE record with them!) NARAL, NOW, pro-choice, anti-Bush, Clark, Kucinich, Dean, Edwards) and I sent the following messages:

NOW is the Time; YOU are Needed!

In 2004, we are facing one of the most critical elections ever. Many of us realize the destructive potential of our current president, but the cold hard truth is: the only way to get Bush out of office is to support John Kerry. And the only way we can ensure that Kerry is elected is to actively volunteer and support him. For the next 50 days, the North Carolina Kerry/Edwards campaign needs as many people as possible who can volunteer to make calls, canvass likely voters and encourage others to register and vote. Donations are also a form of support. But even if your time and money are extremely limited, if you can simply help 5 people you know to get to the polls this year to vote for Kerry, you will have made a difference right here in this state.

If you have not already done so, please take a moment to volunteer @ www.johnkerry.com/volunteernow, and the Kerry campaign will contact you within the next 5 days.

Or, if you would simply like to share information about Kerry with people you know, go to http://www.kerrysupport.com/issues.html to download printable pamphlets with critical fact-based information about Kerry and Bush.

Whatever you are able to do, this is the year, and now is the time. Please pass the word.

All of you who SAY you want Bush out of office.

Time`s a-wastin`!

Try it. For those of you who are stuck at home, you can STILL make a difference!

18. P.S.
There are many singles organizations that are geared toward progressives. Singles groups where everyone is vegetarian, or Wiccan or pagan etc.

In some cases, it's possible to directly contact people in the groups. That's another way to tap into folks and get them to volunteer.

Can't hurt...
