This quote really made my stomach turn
I don't know if anyone posted this story yet but it was in my local paper today about the NJ mother who was arrested. But this quote by *my* local assemblyman <shudder> really made me sick

"After the speech, Assemblyman Bill Baroni, R-Hamilton, referred to Niederer allegedly striking a spectator. "She really ought to find something to do with her time," he said, adding that 1,200 audience members "had a great time"

http://www.nj.com/news/times/index.ssf?/base/news-2/1095408497246220.xml

I really wish I wasn't away at school yesterday...that firehouse was literally 5 minutes away from my house...I think along with congressmen and senators DUers should send an e-mail to Mr. Baroni about his totally insensitive comments (609) 631-9988 or you can e-mail him here http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/members/baroni.asp

Also in this article they describe how they plant rethug volunteers to drown out protestors...

"Event volunteer Karolina Zabawa, 20, described her duties: "If anybody acts up, I just start chanting, `Four more years!' " Zabawa is a Steinert High School graduate and Drexel University student."

This really made me mad because that girl went to my high school and by the looks of her age, probably graduated in the same class as me. However I have no clue who she is...all my high school pals are hard core Kerry supporters!

1. The Nazis did the same trick
Chanting to drown out dissent. Until they just decided to "disappear" any dissenters.

Brownshirts are brownshirts, whether it's the 1930s or now.

6. Four More Years
"A slogan: a convenient substitute for thought."
Nietzsche

By the way, with regard to the "Four More Years" slogan, I'm old enough to remember that back in 1972 when Nixon was running with a "Four More Years" slogan, one place that it was not used was when somebody took a campaign swing through Vietnam to try to corner the military vote. The reason was that because they were afraid that the Vietnamese would interpret the slogan as meaning four more years of war.

15. I Remember that Election
the Nixon crowd chanted "Four More Years". Nixon won, but couldn't last 20 months, and his asshole sidekick, Agnew, was out in less than "One More Year".

If they didn't get pardoned, they would have got more than "Four More Years", they should have got "Ten to Twenty".

And, as John Dean said, these guys we have now are worse, and he should know.

16. Hi wicasa! Great quote from Nietzsche
"A slogan: a convenient substitute for thought."

Yes, our national dialog has been sloganized. Evolution wired our brains to bypass the chitchat as a survival mechanism, ie, we yell fire instead of saying, "by the looks of the smoky quality of the air and the flickering orange color, I am guessing that perhaps, maybe the theater is on fire."

Another evolutionary adaptation that unfortunately has a downside: propaganda.

I'd give you a "Welcome," but since I have less than 500 posts, I don't know if it's good manners. ;)

2. What could be better to do with her time?
Than fighting to remove the administration that sent her son off to die for a misbegotten and illegal war? Please. I'm emailing him right now to let him know how callous that remark was. He ought to find something better to do with HIS time than that.

4. "She really ought to find something to do with her time,"
Like what? Maybe sorting through her dead son's belongings? Looking at his old baby pictures? Maybe she could spend more time visiting his grave? What an asshole.

18. What is mind blowing is that none of these people
seem to even try to understand what this woman is going through. Whether you agree with what she did or not, it would seem obvious that this woman is grieving mightily for her dead son.

I can't imagine anything worse than losing a child. Nothing. They should have cut her some slack and shown a little humanity. Maybe even some gratitude for her sacrifice.

and welcome to the Murkin Reich. Your Republican friends here to keep you from ever seeing the truth. Because the truth really does hurt. But Republicans cannot feel pain.

the event. She was not trespassing. Another GOP thug false arrest. Her son volunteered....I bet he had no idea what these bastards had in mind.

12. Here's what I wrote
Dear Mr. Baroni,

I would like to ask you to clarify the following:

"After the speech, Assemblyman Bill Baroni, R-Hamilton, referred to Niederer allegedly striking a spectator. "She really ought to find something to do with her time," he said, adding that 1,200 audience members "had a great time"

I'm so glad that the other 1,200 audience members had a great time but I'm sure you can excuse a grieving mother for not being the life of the party.

But, since perhaps you have a son who was recently killed in Iraq, maybe you can make some suggestions for how Ms. Niederer can better spend her time. You do have a son that was recently killed in Iraq, right? Because otherwise I can't imagine why you would open your mouth and say such a thing about a woman who has had to live a mother's worst nightmare.

It's bad enough Ms. Niederer lost her son due to a web of lies created by the Bush administration, but then to be treated so shamefully in her grief is disgusting. Shame on you Mr. Baroni.

Of all the repulsive things I've heard mouthed by Republicans lately, this one takes the cake.

She might make better use of her time if she had a son who was alive to spend time with.

Is this jackass running for re-election? Because if he is, I want to contribute RIGHT NOW to whoever is opposing him.

is raising money for his opponent. If he's not up for reelection, you could just say that you're donating the money to the Democratic Party in his name.
