1. WWJD? What would Jeanna Drink? These folks have zero compassion.
I'm really disappointed in Laura Bush, I never thought she'd react in such a calloused way, this lady was in pain. It's a true shame.

4. It probably wasn't here decision
But they live with such a hostile, paranoid worldview in this White House, she probably just considered it a Democratic or peace activist stunt. Now that it's out and clear they're probably considering right now how can they set up a photo-op with her to show how compassionate they are. I doubt this mom would go for it, tho. She's got to be furious with them.

6. I don't think laura is as she seems
She's a phony like all bushes. Neither a nice quiet woman like the repugs say nor a stepford wife like the dems say. She's a heartless b**ch like her mother in law.

12. What did Laura Bush have to do with it?
The lady was outside the building where LB was speaking, so I doubt that Laura Bush had any clue as to what was going on.

It's just SOP for all Bush campaign crews, I expect. Arrest all dissenters.

7. Those "hand wringers" really pissed me off. Folks - this is a
battle, if we don't win this one I'm pretty sure things are going to get real ugly in this country for people like us and the things we believe in.

We must stick together - even IF the sign ripper was "legit" - no real harm was done so lets not beat each other up especially in public. I'm sure that kid has long forgotten about it.

They're monsters and we must defeat them.

5. The first comment it a Lulu.
So she's a bad woman because she divorced her son's father.

They might want to know that she and her ex-husband sent a joint letter to President Bush about their son's death. All they received was a fund raising letter.

I fucking despise freepers. They are all white trash.

27. Welcome to DU.
Your point is well taken. If those comments were made by African Americans, Native Americans, Chinese Americans, or whomever, the use of a racial epithet would not be tolerated, nor should it be tolerated if it's aimed at perceived Caucasians. Not sure why some folks went overboard in attacking it, but it does happen. You are a newbie, and therefore under suspicion for a while to many. Just take it in stride.

23. Not to lecture or anything,
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 04:43 PM by asthmaticeog
but what you just did is like moving to a new city, walking into the corner bar for the first time and promptly dressing down the regulars for how they looked, spoke and acted. It's not about whether you're right or wrong; going into a new social situation and telling someone off right out of the box is never good etiquette anywhere.

That said, I, too am deeply bothered by the term "White Trash." I consider it a racial epithet, pure and simple. Thing is, CStT is someone I've encountered here a lot, and whose posts I've seen great value in. Since whether "White Trash" is a racist slur or not is hardly a closed matter in our culture, I let it go; it doesn't mean the same thing to everyone. It isn't the N-Word yet, and that Chavez uses the expression isn't all there is to him, not by a long shot. In fact, he rocks.

All that said, I hope you stick around. Just try not to go thread-jacking until people know you better. It's only common sense. We get a lot of disruptive conservative pranksters here, and what you did is a good way of making people think you might be one.

Conditionally, welcome to DU.

On edit - Oh, holy shit, you went after RKM, not chavez. Whatever, all the above still applies. Even if I am inattentive.

11. "She certainly didn't love him enough to honor his memory."
She didn't love him enough? Didn't she go and protest Laura and ask her why her husband sent her son to Iraq, only to be killed?? Did she not care that she was being arrested for what she did? Was she not crying? Was she not yelling?

It's quite obvious that the mother of the soldier who got killed loved her son unconditionally.

It made me quite sad to watch her as she was protesting and getting arrested. I was nearly in tears. :(

presuming to speak for strangers' dead relatives. Like when Bill O'Reilly told the liberal son of a 9/11 victim that his dead father would be ashamed of him.

Post from Bizarro World:

She's keeping his memory alive you stupid turds.

Without her actions no one would know of her plight.

25. Ronald Reagan was divorced..guess he didnt love his kids ?
Not to mention Newt & Rudy G.or Bob Dole,or Joe Scarborough,etc....are Freepers hypocrites or what?

I've spent today calling New Jersey congressmen. The way that mom was treated was disgraceful, and shows a lack of respect not only for her, but for her son, not to mention freedom of speech.

Laura is aware of the situtation..."no comment" is the Whitehouse reply. What a bunch of "compassionate" conservatives.
