Does Anyone Doubt that Iraq Belongs to al-Sistani?
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 06:32 AM by louis c
al-Sistani, the Shia Cleric, holds indisputable sway over Iraq.

Because of the large majority of Shiites in that country, and al-Sistani's unassailable position, how can anyone doubt that he controls Iraq?

If there is an election in January, does anyone doubt, after witnessing the events in Najaf last month, that he would win overwhelmingly?

If there is no election, and civil war eruptes, can al-Sistani do anything else but triumph?

Bush's ill advised war in Iraq has done nothing but give the Shia majority the upper hand. Last month, Alawi, al-Sadr, and George Bush all had to bow to the wishes of al-Sistani.

It has become obvious to anyone that Iraq belongs to him, and nothing we can do can change that, short of al-Sistani's death.

There is nothing left to fight for. We should recognize the inevitable, give the country to al-Sistani, and leave there in an orderly and peaceful way after cutting the handover deal to the Cleric.

Whether we like it or not, anything else is just prolonging the inevitable.

4. I agree

1. Recognize the Kurds as a separate nation. In the negotiations, the Kurds must relinquish any claim to Kurdish territory inside Turkey. The Turks and Kurds agree to an oil alliance in which Kurdish oil is pumped, then transported through Turkey to market.

2. al-Sistani is allowed to create a government in the remainder of Iraq, once he guarantees safe passage for all coalition forces.

3. The U.S. and its allies recognize bot the new Kurdistan and Iraqi nations, and signs a non-aggression pact with Iraq.

4. Kurdistan becomes a strong American ally and accepts an American presence.

5. The U.S. uses its influence to have Turkey accepted as a full partner in the European Union, and grantees aid, and security.

anyway, that's my plan.

6. The Turks won't accept an independent Kurdish nation
They have been quite clear about that.

5. He holds sway only over the Shiites in southern Iraq but not the
Sunnis, Kurds, Turkmen, Arabs, or Christians. He has sway over about one to two thirds of Iraq.
