What was Bush thinking when he selected John Ashcroft as Attorney General?
As usual, nothing at all.

I wouldn't want John Ashcroft in any line of work, anywhere, anytime.

Ashcroft's a racist

Ashcroft's a bigot

Ashcroft is a loser, he is so much a loser that he lost to a dead man

Ashcroft stopped flying commercially in June of 2001 because of a Security threat, and failed to tell the American People.

I would applaud John Kerry if one of the first things he does is kick John Ashcroft out of the position he does not deserve.

5. Bush and the word think don't go in the same sentence, do they?
I don't think he is capable of thinking. Remember the strings attached to his hands, feet, and mouth??? :-)

6. I believe he was thinking...

...that all standards had to be ratcheted downwards--to his level. You can ask this question about so many people in his administration. What was he thinking when he selected Condi Rice? Tom Ridge? Christie Todd Whitman? General Boykin?

10. He was thinking he wanted a political attack dog who would sic
his critics and opponents and ignore the rule of law.

Even the hiring practice at the DOJ has been totally politicized and is being overseen by Herr Ashcroft. NOne but loyal sycophants need apply.

I'll give him a high profile job to stick it to those no-good Democratic party. Didn't he also attempt to get Rick Laslo (sp? Hillary's opponent) a job in the administration?

16. Like every decision he's made as President, Bush had little involvement.
Ashcroft was probably the GOP's bone to throw at the religious-right crackpots.

in the top law enforcement office so that the events of 9/11/01 would not be hindered before hand or fully investigated afterwards.
