Keith Idema is the "patriot" who was caught running a private jail in Kabul where he hung Afghanis by the feet to make them talk. His co-conspirators were found guilty as well.

1. Do many people think he and his companions were working alone?

Very interesting story. Thanks,jmorwreader. A moment in the trial worth pondering:

A non-Muslim, Idema asked to swear on the Quran before testifying Wednesday. He kissed a copy of Islam's holy book, prompting one of his former prisoners, an Afghan Supreme Court official with a long black beard, to jump to his feet and acclaim Idema as a convert.

Some in the courtroom audience cried "God is great!" three times in response, moving Idema and his former inmate to exchange smiles.

I hope he has some time to reflect upon the nature of his actions and their vicious impact on the world. Too bad others connected to this adventure can't be included.

2. In fact, many people think the US Government set him up

Idema was always a pain in the ass, and this was apparently a quick, easy way to get rid of him.

The story under the Idema Found Guilty piece (he got ten years, as did Brent Bennett, while Ed Caraballo got eight) was all about how his friends think he was railroaded.

I would love to see how Cheney and Rumsfeld tie back to Idema--I feel very strongly that the administration is in this thing up to their asses, but of course can't prove a fucking thing.
