E-mail from Bagdahd
This is a dear friend of mine who is Kurdish. His hometown is in Duhok, he is a translater and a worker for the Iraq ministery. Please excuse the bad language and punctuation. I thought some of you might find this of interesting. Things are falling apart in Iraq...LITERALLY!

We have been coming under attack recently in a daily routine that is not funny any more these people are becoming very bold in their attacks, before they would have rockets attack and leave alone the rest of the day, now it is all day business and the other day we got very close about to be wounded or…anyway on of the round landed at about twenty yard from us that we just had passed there, it made our day because I did not wanted any thing happen to my uncle, he is the hope for a lot people in this country, anyway on the next day after that they started we came(the area called green zone) under attack from early morning till nine o’clock ant that was terrible and there was nothing we could do but to take cover. Our Ministry of Defense has become a target of mortar attack and the other day two construction guys got killed due to those attacks. Beside this life is going on in Baghdad and slowly the heat is going away and life is becoming bare able, you will not believe how hot it could get in this damn town and I don’t know why would you want to live here all your life, may be some people get used to that but I do know definitely I am not one of those people. We are going back to Duhok this coming Sunday and I hope by then you have given me your number so I could call you (I really would like to hear your voice) and let me know when is the best time to call. I will try to write you later on .love you and miss you

Adnan

1. It's so easy ...
to get wrapped up in the politics of this thing, but the actual truth of it is just horrible. Sometimes, I get so sick thinking about all the trouble we've caused. And for what? Really, for what? Even those who think it was worth it to get rid of Saddam have GOT to admit it might have been nice to have some sort of strategy for making sure things didn't get this bad. Ugh.

Anyway, good luck to your friend. I hope he makes it home safely.

3. It is horrible. But all we hear from Shrub is
how well things are going in Iraq. And the media just parrot what he says. I am sick of people (some) saying But don't you think they are better off without Sadaam? Of course we are glad he is not in control now, but are they truly better off in Iraq? They have traded one dictator for another. I am to the point where I think we had better just pull out now and let the Iraqis decide for themselves what kind of government they want. We went in on lies and lies always mean trouble. We are falling apart in this country with no help in sight. Kerry will have one hell of a job to get us out of our own quagmire. We have been betrayed by this administration which cares not about the people of this country, but of the corporate buddies who have given millions of dollars to it. I am old enough to remember when this country cared about its citizens. I am heartsick for my children and grandchildren who will bear the enormous burden of getting this country back on track.

6. NO, many of us are NOT GLAD that Sadaam is no longer in control
We don't need to keep saying that, just because we are set up for it. It was predicted *before* the war ever started that as mean as Sadaam was capable of being, he was holding that country together. Removing him was sure to unleash just what we are now seeing.

Better???

I think not.

2. I can't imagine living like that
I hope your friend makes it through all of this. It's unreal to me what bush has caused over there, and won't take responsibility for.
So many were against this "war" from the beginning and now many people are seeing that it wasn't worth it.
Thank you for posting this.

4. It's horrible...
Funny thing is.... he's from Duhok, which is a lovely mountain town in northern Iraq. He had NEVER been in Bagdahd until now. Kurds were not permitted to travel to Bagdahd, they were protected in the northern areas. He hates it.... and I can sense his fear in each e-mail. He's pretty westernized and is not used to this type of violence. I can't imagine that either......

5. Thanks for sharing this. I feel like I should apologize to him and
his country. However, I also want to ask him why they will not help our soldiers fight the terrorists that have come into their country. Of course, if that SOB that claims to be our POTUS had not sent our troops over there, they probably would not be having suicide bombers. Our troops have no choice in why they are there or what they do. They have to follow orders they are given.

Does he not see the terrorists coming into his country causing a lot of the deaths? He does realize that because of these people, who are also Arabs but are willing to kill their fellow Muslims as well as Americans, that is why our troops are fighting everyone. They do not know who is their enemy. I just hope they understand that the American People will always support our young men and women, and I hope he realizes that the only reason they are there is because of an arrogant, greedy, uber oil and money grubbing man who was not even elected as our president nor has he ever worked a day in his life OR served his Country honorably.

I would love to email or talk with other Iraqis. Does he know anyone that would want to start a possible long-distance friendship with an American that is concerned for all that are involved? If he does, my email is icantype2@iwon.com. I love talking to people all over the world and learning about other cultures. Everywhere else on the Internet, if you want to have a foreign email-like pen pal, you have to pay for a name and join a club.

Is NOTHING free anymore????????

7. Frankly.....
It is simply not true that "they" are not fighting the insurgency. The Iraqi police force and army are fighting right along side our soilders. And getting KILLED right along with them as well. They are fighting the terrorists. Problem is, that BUSH created this shit! He went in with no back-up plan. I guess he just assumed that the army and police force was just gonna "happen" and things would be all roses. The Iraq ministry is comprised of many cultures, including kurdish. They are not getting a free ride... they are trying like hell to get their shit together. It's pretty depressing.

If you are interested in making friends with some Iraqi's and Kurds, go to WWW.Duhok.net be aware of American hatred however..... aside from that, I have found some very nice people on there.

8. You know, all those "letters from a soldier in Iraq", a thought
I would think that it's still in place, but didn't the armed forces "censor" the letters in the olden days so that soldiers wouldn't give away their positions while writing to loved ones?

I wonder if, lately, the armed forces commanders only let glowing reports of "what's really happening in Iraq" through, because doing otherwise would "give ammunition to the enemy should it fall into the wrong hands" . . .
