The media really DOES suck, doesn't it.
Ignoring that they're not mentioning the secretary AT ALL, I've been watching all three "news" networks for information on WHERE exactly Ivan hit, what time, etc. The only thing I can tell is that Panama Beach FL lost some people and that people don't have power. And that's it--when Ivan coverage is on ALL THREE CHANNELS. I turned to the Today Show, and they're talking about their stupid look-alike contest, and I turn to Good Morning America and they're talking about something else inconsequential....

It really does suck, doesn't it.

1. Gulf Shores, Alabama, tj
It was all over our local news this morning.

Mobile didn't get it quite as bad as they thought it would, since it was on the western end-- sounds like Pensacola probably got a lot more since it was on the eastern side.

They were waiting for the curfew to be lifted this morning since it was still too dark to see much.

Hope this helps!

5. THANK YOU, LOL!
I heard once or twice that it missed Mobile, and I was like...well, where did it go?

2. The future of the world is at stake and they talk about the weather.
Is this a dumbed-down country or what?

3. American media seem to suck, at least.
Most news programmes, particularly the cable networks, seem designed for morons with short attention spans, and the focus is too much on meaningless trivia (celebrities, human interest stories, et cetera) rather than on the important issues of the day. And coverage of those issues seems to be rather superficial, at best...I've given up on the America media, pretty much. I get most of my news from overseas sources, like the Guardian and the BBC World Service...and as a result I seem to be generally better-informed than the people I know who get their news from what's on television here in the States...

6. Hopefully at some point in the near future
"alternative" media will force mainstream media to address some of the relevant issues confronting this country. Thank God for the internet, BBC world news and AAR.

7. Cable TV babies need their pacifiers, they can't turn it off

Everyday people come on here whining about the latest crap they heard on CNN or Fox or whatever. If people refuse to seek out alternatives and help them grow then they shouldn't be surprised when these same propaganda outlets continue their dominance.

It's annoying how many people are stuck on CNN etc.

10. I know what you mean
And many of those people, there are some in my family, say things like "the media is lazy" or "not doing its job" They watch day after day as if they expect that some day the cable media will transform itself into a democratic (as in democracy) institution. You know, like they will just start the "Today Show" by saying "Good morning, we have been whores for the GOP for 18 years. Now we will begin equal time, 2 decades, for the Dems..."

The corporate media IS doing its job -- covering B*sh's behind. People forget that the audience is NOT the consumer for their product. The viewer's eyeballs and brains ARE the product being sold. Corporate owners and advertisers are their customer. Which is why the Right always goes after advertisers with boycotts (eg. Slim Fast because of Whoopi Goldberg).

8. Yes, it sucks. Just don't watch it. Especially now, how many

shots of some newsface standing in the rain and wind in some hotel parking lot, breathlessly explaining that you can't see it at home, but the wind is really moving things around right now...

9. Yes, the media really does suck
and who wants to bet they'll ignore U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan's remark that the Bush Administration's decision to go to war in Iraq was illegal because it didn't have U.N. Security Council approval.

12. It is worse than sucking. It is downright dangerous to this country.....
They are now doing to Kerry what they did to Gore. They are using all of the RW talking points faxed to them from KKKarl and using the weakest of 'Dems',Brazille as an example, to show their balance in reporting.

As far as Iraq goes they only do 1-2 minute segments at the most. Many times I have seen them use the same footage from there all week long. There is almost a blackout of information from there.

The CBS AWOL story is and will be all about the fake docs. NOT what they say, which is THE point. More KKKArl for you.

I am pretty depressed about it, can you tell? :(
