60 MInutes II pre-empted by a movie and I'm furious
I can't believe that our local CBS affiliate is now showing a movie called "Last Flight Out". It was introduced by Franklin Graham. The movie (2003) is about a washed up pilot who goes to South America to rescue a medical missionary, with whom the pilot is in love, from drug runners!!!!!!!!!!!! I called our station and I was told even before I could ask that their showing this movie had nothing to do with the Bush controversy! Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuure it didn't. I immediately sent an email to CBS telling them of this move and then I wrote a letter to the editor of our newspaper detailing my displeasure at this whole thing.

This is my letter to the Roanoke Times:

I'm furious that the CBS affiliate, WDBJ, here in Roanoke, Virginia did not televise the show 60 Minutes II on Wednesday night, September 15. Dan Rather had promised on the news Wednesday evening that he would have new questions, new answers and new evidence regarding President Bush's service in the Air National Guard. I called WDBJ and was told that they had planned some time ago to show "Last Flight Out" a 2003 film introduced by Franklin Graham. The film is about a washed up pilot who goes to South America to rescue a medical missionary that he once loved, from drug runners!! I was assured that it had nothing to do with the controversy about Bush's National Guard Service. I find that too difficult to digest. I also saw from posts on a blog that people in other states were having blackouts during the 60 Minutes II show and that they were also prevented from seeing last week's (Sept.8) show. Only that show was blacked-out. Their television stations resumed broadcasting after the show was over. I am beyond disgust that we are being deprived of this much needed news that is of such importance to this country at this time in our history. How dare they give in to the strong arm tactics of the Bush administration to keep this story off the air!!! This administration will resort to anything to get elected. I am very disappointed in WDBJ for the action they took. They substituted a story about a washed-up pilot going after drug runners in South America for a more important, relevant one of a washed-up pilot reported to have been heavily involved with alcohol and cocaine abuse who became President of this wonderful country. Shame on WDBJ. We deserve better than this.

15. Email address for posters here
Please write our newspaper at"

karen.trout@roanoke.com

Thanks, I hope she gets many. And prints them as well. You need to include your name, address, and phone number, otherwise they will not even consider the letters. I'm sure y'all know that already.

Yes, I'm very close to Lynchburg--home of the infamous Jerry Falwell!! About an hour away.

2. That sucks... another poster in another location said the same thing...
Now why on earth could THAT be? They didn't want anyone to see an actual, credible witness who would validate everything in those memos from last week? Nah... that couldn't be it.

10. They didn't show it here in Wichita Falls, TX
they had some school bond issue that the local tv station was reporting about, canceling 60 minutes.

I wish those local idiots would make the connection...Bush is all hat, no cattle...HE IS NOT FUNDING OUR SCHOOLS APPROPRIATELY

The school system here is in big trouble and a majority of those idiots here still vote for Bush.

I am so getting ready to move out of here.

11. I know it's been said before
but the fact that this thing is being pretty much blatantly hidden in so many crucial areas makes me think that THIS is the moment.

This story just arrived.

9. More "liberal media bias" ...

Oh the case file for the "evil" liberal media keeps growing. I mean, the way they swwop through and squash any stories that could impune the president. That's just SO LIBERAL!!!!!

</sarcasm>

BTW, freepers. On the contrary you have 8 straight years of Clinton bashing from the media on ALL stations.

13. Charleston SC
same thing happened here. I called the local station left the cranky message, then I called again and got a human and bitched at them. They said it will be shown at 2 am.

Then hubby and I went detective. By calling one digit off another number we had , we got a hold of CBS 60 minutes tonight. Gave the nice man the info about our station here and the call letters.
He mentioned they are becoming aware of this. He asked what was printed in our TV guide area. Hubby said 60 minutes.
Man on phone said they can lose their license for something like this. My local website..bitch away my friends.

17. Affiliate stations frequently don't play the network feed
for a lot of reasons. One good reason might be that they don't want to air this information.

18. Excuses, excuses...
The anchor on our affiliate in OKC whined, "but the movie was planned months in advance..." Riiiiiight. I'm sure when the WTC towers were coming down, they'd have said, "but we've got to play this movie...it was planned months in advance!" :eyes:

19. With Vladimir's Help
George Bush is probably jealous of Vladimir Putin for taking over Russia as he seems to have accomplished the feat of becoming the next Russian dictator. Watch out because Bush wants to do the same thing here.
Taking away the media is a sorry thing for democracy. It makes my heart ache.
As you post suggests, taking over the media is a step forward for these fascists. I hate to use the word fascist, but that is what concerns me. Another term for GWB, and I fear for the future of our country and what can we do about it?
