I Just Slammed the Checker At The Grocery

This morning as I was passing through the checkout at my local SW store the checker noticed my Kerry/Edwards Button and said....

"Why are you supporting Kerry for President"

I replied back because this country need a big dose of HOPE and HELP and not lies and deception that it has been riddled with for the past 3.5 years.

He asked me for a lie and deception that Shrub has spoke.....

Of course I said IRAQ.........I mentioned Bushes flip/flop....first Iraq had no WMDS...no ALQueda link with SH and then it did and then last Sunday's CPowells said no link once again. I asked him why 1005 men and women in the uniform have died also asked him if he knew Shrubs exit stategy to both he responded.....I REALLY DONT KNOW!! I asked him if he really feels safer after today with all the new security policys in place since 9/11....NO was his reply.

He then turned and said that Clinton was far more responsible for 9/11 than Bush.....I told him that the REP lead House and Senate refused to give Clinton the needed authority lead by Trent Lott and Denney Hassart to go after OBL....I said read Clinton My Life book page #935 where it said GWB was disinterested in OBL and more interested in how Clinton did his job(guess he needed some tips)I also mentioned the Aug 6 memo.I then said stated that it seems when the going gets tough for Shrub Shrub goes GOLFING and to Crawford.

He GULP a big one at this point.......then I asked him.....Under Clinton did your Corporate execs ask you to give up future pay raises....essentially freeze your pay.....and shoulder the greater cost of your medical insurance if not all of it?????????.....He said no........I asked him if SW has asked him for any of the above....he said yes, the medical beifits cost him(20%) a bit more and then he said his new contract did not offer him raises the same levels(basicly lower)rate as the old one that was negotiated in 2000.

I asked him under what parties rule does it seem that labor does well......he said it looks like the DEMs..........I then asked him if he was supporting Shrub....he said he was but he may have finally been given the push he needed to seriously consider Kerry.

I remeinded him that Bush is running on the same failed platform he ran on in 2000 and gave him the WWW address for Kerrys HQ and asked him to compare Kerry against Bush.....he said nobody had ever brought out points like I was able......I asked him where he got his info.....He said Foxnews/MsNBC ect and his church......I told him the church issue was another discussion but for him to stop listening to the RWing biased media or at least start using his THINKER between his eyeballs....

I told him Id get him a Kerry button and BSticker and give it to him on my next visit....he said he'd look foward to getting it.....

Do I detect a onsight conversion.

1. When one can convince a person they are voting against themselves
that is good. That was my point with a marine the other day.

2. this is how we win
really. One person at a time. You're today's hero. Thank you for your soldiering. We can't back down. I overheard two guys at my gym talking politics and joined the discussion. We must make our voices heard. Liberals/progressives too often feel they don't have support since we've not inundating the airwaves with hate speech. Ordinary citizens everywhere need to speak to us and to have us listen and discuss these critical issues.
I am truly thankful to people like you.

"go ye and do likewise."

Instead of wasting time posting and reading here, get out into the real world and follow rsmith6621's fine example!

And then when you've converted someone, go out and do it again!

What? ARE YOU STILL SITTING HERE READING?

11. brilliant
Asking a union person, or any working person, if their insurance premiums have gone up or down under Bush, if their cost of living has gone up or down under Bush, and if their after-tax wages have gone up or stagnated under Bush is perfect.

They can hear all kinds of propaganda from Fox and from their church, but when it comes to putting food on the table Bush is simply horrible. We need to push this message home every day.

Well done!

13. You didn't slam the checker
You enlightened him. Good command of facts and brought it right home to where he lives: Are you doing better or worse at your job under Bush? Making more money or less?

Excellent job of educating someone on where their best interests really lie.

14. Tell him to look for a new church too
You could tell him that GW's church (the Methodist Church) disagreed with his Iraq war policy as well. Their social policies are very much opposed to most of the Bush policies that are oppressive to the poor (including the faith based initiate).

17. Good Job.
Isn't it just amazing that someone like this... a grocery clerk, making what 10 bucks and hour max is pro-Bush. Amazing... this just goes to show you the power a corrupt media like Fox has over someone, not to mention his church which if I had to bet brought up the whole Kerry = gay marriage and anti-abortion topics.

i wish i had your courage, i just get too emotional.

Good job pointing out the labor issues, I am sure his job is union, and the anti labor thugs have been trying to break the grocery union for years. I wonder how much he would make at $8.00 an hour? Try supporting a family on that.

clerk at the supermarket! he works his butt off for very little money. After reading your story, I have to say, I'm sorry for pre-judging you. You did a great job! My guess is that his parents are Pubs and he was voting for Shrub because that's all they talk about. I hope he stays converted. Maybe he'll even try to convert his parents!

23. Oh wow. Pat yourself on the back!
But you got to wonder what is it with these people? Some of them actually are SHEEP. It's like they repeat everything they hear from the right wing media and don't research the information themselves! And I noticed they always manage to insert Clinton into the mix to blame him for 9/11 and not Bush. Truly amazing. But congratulations for what you did. Maybe the ex freeper will spread her new found wealth of information to other ignorant freepers out there.

Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 04:43 PM by theHandpuppet
... the only advice he needs can be found directly from Jesus in the Book of Matthew, the Sermon on the Mount. It will be crystal clear to him that Bush/Cheney embody the very antithesis of Christ's teachings.

The SOTM begins with the Beatitudes:

Matthew 5

1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

<snipping>

19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

31. Or Matthew 25:32-46
Of course, this seems to apply to individuals, not countries, but in having a democracy we are acting as individuals in deciding what kind of government we have..

"All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Kerry wants it raised by about $2.00 per hour. Bush? nothing but silence, the same silence checker boys like that guy will hear for the next four years if Chimp wins.
