I try to be nice, but DAMN.
My sister is pretty well off and she's oh-so-pissed she can't use her frequent flyer miles to visit my parents cross country next month for our get-together. She expects my 70's-old parents to pick her up at an airport 2 1/2 hours away from their home at 11:30 PM.

I say she should rent a freaking car. She can afford it and it's the right thing to do. Also, if she paid a little more (money she has) she could take a commuter to a closer airport for them to pick her up.

Sometimes blood is not thicker than water.

How do I intervene?

6. I did, the last time this happened.
And she rented a car. But she seems to have forgotten that.

be forceful, but nice. Tell her what you think, and why. Then step back and see what happens. That's what I do with my sister, and we can't be together for more than a few hours or we start arguing about everything and anything.

Oh yeah, it doesn't always work. :(

14. So, tell her to rent a car or wait for you at the airport.
Hey, three days in an airport won't be so bad when she's saving all that money?

4. Sounds like the parents need to stand up to her and say "NO"
What would scare me is her taking more and more advantage as they get even older.

Lemmeee guess... she's RW, right?

5. Tell her to rent the damn car!
End of subject! For her to expect your elderly parents to drive all that way at 11:30 at night is just ridiculous.

11. Don't know.
My family is the most secretive family in the Universe.

I know she's socially liberal, but acts like a republican.

We don't disclose certain things. ack.

13. Secretive? Do you have a Slavic ancestry? My whole family is still
running from the nazis or something. I think it's a common slavic trait, lol.

15. Here is how we solved the problem of airports and picking up folks.
All our kids live out of state. We live halfway between Tampa and Orlando airports, and it was becoming a real pain to pick folks up.
Now we tell them to take the airport limousine. We offer to pay if they don't want to, so we don't feel guilty.

Usually they say they will take care of it. It is quite a hassle to get people at airports now, especially with the Interstate 4 here always shut down or backed up.

It did not make them mad, and it works very well. Or they might rent a car.

16. Just tell her
By email isn't that how all dysfunctional families communicate? I know mine does.

Love the blue glacial ice. Beautiful!
