1. Lemme guess:
"A few bad apples. Higher ups horrified and make sure rogue soldiers are punished. America regains its gleam. The End"

Nice propaganda, huh?

2. Muslim woman whose brother was tortured kills a demobilized soldier.
Part of her defense is she is a prisoner of war.

18. Yes, *that* is the likely Ron Silver contribution.
I was leary of Silver as soon as he popped-up in the episode, and was surprised to see that he wasn't the most radically right-wing character in the episode.

However, his right-wing contribution *may* have been to simply portray an angry liberal defending the indefensible Muslim woman.

8. What disgusted me was Fred Thompson's character...
Comparing Iraq to Bosnia and Kosovo, saying we went in to stop people from being slaughtered in Bosnia and Kosovo, when I'm pretty sure when that scum was a senator he heavily criticized Clinton's decision to take steps in Bosnia.
I know, it's just his character, and who knows, maybe he choked down his words, but something just turned my stomach about him comparing the two...

23. April '99 - go back and look at the reThug manueverings over Kosovo -
It was all about making Clinton look bad, the sort of stuff that is now called "treason" by reThugs.

24. He got in Bush's "they hate us for our freedoms" line!
(Or at least it was something about "freedoms..." I don't remember, I was too busy laughing at him.)

I generally like "Law and Order" and its two spinoffs, but I thought this show sucked. The episode after it didn't hold my attention either and seemed like a "remember what happened on 9/11" love fest.

9. Freepers are having a cow
over this episode. It seemed fair and balanced to me, though Law and Order seems to have a slightly conservative tilt.
Sure is fun to watch Freepers flip out over a TV show

15. 98% of Abu Ghraib prisoners were "high value targets"
From my parallel thread at: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=2401782

Most aggravating to me* was the comment by the superior of the slain National Guardsman, regarding the prisoners at Abu Ghraib. The character's statement was that 98% of the prisoners were high-value targets. This is a blatant falsehood that should not have been kept in the script whatsoever, let alone allowed to be stated and unchallenged as it was. It has been reported that "as many as 80 percent of the Iraq detainees have been innocent civilians."

I *certainly* didn't find the episode, up to the point to which I've viewed it thus far, to be "fair and balanced." Much like the typical political discourse of the day, the facts/truth of the Left are countered with spin and disinformation from the Right.

20. Yeah, jumping from 20% to 98% is a bit of a leap.
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 09:27 PM by krkaufman
I'm thinking MediaMatters may need to start watching this new avenue of winger propaganda.

(Remember the % of the citizenry whose political diet consists of the late-night talk shows. I'm sure some % will swallow subtle propaganda such as the 98% number without questioning it.)

21. law n order always was neocon pap...
oh they try to pretend they're not, but here's a story from several years ago:
guy robs bank, runs, throws gun in river....
divers fetch gun, find 1968 vw van, pull it out...
open door, skull falls out- bullet hole in it...
also find plastic id of security guard in van...
vw belong to 'hippie' leader who disappear in 1968...
hippie was leader of bunch who protest war, seize office...
sec. guard work at office; he learn/lose son that morning in 'nam (!)
they find old man in retirement home, ask lotsa questions...

case solved- old man so mad at hippies (for ex. they use flag as toilet paper) plus his son (sob sob) he lose it, kill hippie...
brother of hippie reveal hippie was also undercover cop ie rat...

Only a hatefilled asshole could make a show like that, which was so cardboard plotted and so bushevik, and this was during clinton era!
>no wonder our people have grown up loathing themselves...

22. That was the last episode I watched. Also will never watch
Cold Case Files or that Navy CIS show. Hideous crap, and they wonder why they're ratings are so low.
I do still watch Criminal Intent though. They've had some good shows on corporate crime.

25. even west wing....
though i never actually watched it, still it seems that portraying the gov run by nice liberal prez while reality crowned a bush emperer etc, seemed like it was 'soothing' stroking the people, telling them sweet nuthings while vicious incredibly brutish goofs really were the power....
We are a relentlessly dishonest society that claims it's innocent (at least that's the impression i get)
