Terry Gross vs. Bill O'Reilly, Round 2
Terry Gross was a guest on O'Reilly's show. You may recall how he was a guest on Fresh Air and stormed off. Here's a partial transcript:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,133177,00.html

O'REILLY: That's the only interview in my whole life I've ever terminated. With us now is Terry Gross, the author of the book "All I Did Was Ask: Conversations with Writers, Actors, Musicians and Artists." Well, you can't say I didn't make you famous.

TERRY GROSS, "ALL I DID WAS ASK" AUTHOR: Well, Bill, I pledge that no matter what you ask me, I'm staying for the entire interview.

O'REILLY: OK, you're going to stay for the whole interview. That's good. Here's my problem with this interview. I thought that you were trying to make a name for yourself by quoting this defamation, which has been discredited at this point all up and down. And then, I read in your book — you don't have the interview in your book, per se, you don't put the transcripts — I'll let you tell the audience why. But you do write about it in the introduction.

And you say, "One of the issues I wanted to pursue with O'Reilly was whether he uses his Fox News program to settle scores with anybody who takes issues with him," on and on and on. And that's legitimate. I mean, that's legitimate. But what you don't have in your book is that you got scolded by your own ombudsman. Why didn't you just put that in the book? Why did you leave that out?

GROSS: Did I not mention that in the introduction?

O'REILLY: No.

GROSS: Well, I have no problem with the fact that he criticized the interview, because he thought...

O'REILLY: If you're going to set me up in your introduction as somebody which you have problems with, why wouldn't you put in your book that you were scolded by your own ombudsman? You left that out? Why did you leave it out?

GROSS: I don't know why I left it out.

O'REILLY: You don't know?

GROSS: The point, Bill, is that I think the interview was very fair. The ombudsman criticized it. That's fine. That's the ombudsman's job; to stand back and pass judgment on how things were done. He's an independent voice.

O'REILLY: Right.

GROSS: Does Fox News have an ombudsman?

O'REILLY: Yes. We have an ombudsman some place, I think.

GROSS: I don't think so.

O'REILLY: He's in the closet.

GROSS: Give me a call when you find him.

3. He's a pompous Asshole
He is f'ing pompous I can't understand why anyone listens to this twit, his show is all about stroking his own ego: how important he is, how "independent" he is, how right he is, how he speaks for the everyman. PUKE!

ha ha :toast:

I like Terry Gross, and I kind of wanted to see her on O'Reilly. I heard her talking about the interview on Diane Rehm earlier this week. Thanks for posting this.

5. Someone posted after the interview was broadcast that O'Reilly
claimed during the interview that Air America has been on for a year and only has 20 stations (it's been on since March 31 and has 32 stations.)

They seem to have edited out that part, if the poster was correct.

bill saying aar was doing terribly in the ratings, less than 20 affiliates, and on the air more than a year... and how pathetic it was. also said al has been "thoroughly discredited"

it was so weird watching that clip. now i can see why everyone talks about him. oleilly is one weird dude

of course, aar has been on the air since march 31st (so about 6 months), now has 32 affiliates (they started with 8 i think) and best of all, al said they are beating oleilly in the ratings....

7. I guess Fox News figures they can put "Partial Transcript" on
top of their transcripts and then take out anything embarassing.

It's not good journalism, but it's Fox News' variety.

8. HOW CAN HE SAY THAT'S THE ONLY INTERVIEW HE'S TERMINATED?
He's constantly telling people to shut up and turn off the mics! What in the hell is that, if not terminating an interview? Shut up! Shut up! Didn't he tell that kid whose father was killed in the WTC (Jeremy Gluck? something like that) that the interview was over?
