Who else has the misfortune of Sinclair broadcasting owning their local
TV station?

Remember they are the company that refused to air the Nightline program devoted to the "Fallen".

The local news often carries a segment called "Point" where this fascist creep Mark Hyman gives a Republican diatribe.
Tonight he did an extended version of a swiftboat ad, complete with accusations that Kerry 'helped' the Viet Cong. He has been directly attacking Kerry with vicious distortions on our local news! This segment goes out to all their stations and they are required to play it.

I called the station for the second time this week and let them have it. I told them the air waves are public and that they should have their license revoked. There actually is an effort here to keep them from getting their license renewed because of this.

If anyone has heard these Mark Hyman "Point" segments, they will know what I mean. It is almost beyond belief how RW and hateful they are.
I am so fed up with this crap!
Can't even watch the local news without getting a Republican commercial and smear.

1. They own my local WB affiliate in Las Vegas
I love watching Smallville, and if I'm at the computer while it is on I may not change the channel or turn off the TV once it's over. And sure enough, after an hour or two the news will come on, followed by that asshole with his spew.

It truly IS disgusting.

2. The staff at our local station
are actually quite nice, so it is sad that they are forced to do Sinclair's bidding. Nonetheless last night's spew was every bit as bad as the swiftboat ads and at least twice as long.
This is unacceptable and with the election nearing it is really a problem.

You would think there would be some kind of regulation that would apply to this. They are a powerful Co. and own a great many television stations. And believe it or not, they give a larger percentage of their donations to the Republicans than FOX does.
:-(

of faking his injuries. I hate that piece of shit. We get him in two stations because here Fox and ABC are both owned by Sinc-liar.

And talk about a smirk!

screaming at this little toad. Pretty soon my wife will throw the TV out, to keep me from popping a vein.

21. good summary
and this was included in a Newsmax link within the article:

"In fairness, the Sinclair Broadcast Group, led by CEO David D. Smith, is controlled by the Smith family, which has been generous to Republican causes and leaders, such as President Bush, the Sun reported.

And, says the paper, "this year Hyman served as the chief speaker at a fund-raising dinner for Anne Arundel Republicans," at which Maryland Republican Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. – whom Hyman just interviewed – was the featured guest."

I have a lot of info on Sinclair bookmarked, I will have to dig it up.

Sinclair Broadcasting's David Smith Busted In Prostitution Sting
author: reposted

David Deniston Smith, president and chief executive officer of Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc., was charged with committing an unnatural and perverted sex act in a company-owned Mercedes. He was arrested in an undercover sting a Read and St. Paul streets, a downtown corner frequented by prostitutes.

Police said Mary DiPaulo, 31, ran across the street to a 1992 Mercedes, registered to Sinclair, and got in on the passenger side. Police followed the car onto the Jones Falls Expressway, where they said they witnessed the two engage in oral sex while Smith drove north.

4. Sinclair Media Watch
Edited on Thu Sep-23-04 08:10 AM by G_j
I forgot to include this, our local Sinclair watchdog:

http://sinclairwatch.net/

Sinclair Media Watch is a grassroots effort to evaluate local news coverage provided by WLOS-TV, the only broadcast television station based in Asheville, NC.

Volunteers are using a system developed by Stanford University called Grade the News, which uses a score sheet to record the subject matter, impact, and sources used in providing local coverage. Scores are based on the news value of each story, its importance to the audience at large, and quality and diversity of sources.

and there is enough interest, it would be great if other communities did what is being done here in Asheville. http://sinclairwatch.net /

13. This is what libel laws should be about.
Were you or anyone in your peace group able to tape the "Viet Cong" accusation? Has the Kerry campaign been told about this?

I'm glad that you are calling and complaining and I'm sure that gets tiresome. However, it sounds like this has become big enough that the national campaign should be aprised of it.

Hang in there........ we're gonna hafta hold our Dems feet to the fire to get the media back to serving the American system again!

17. I hope so
actually I just found the link to the Sinclair Watch site. I knew something was being done but I sort of forgot about it. Now I think I will become more involved.

I've been watching the news for the last few weeks because our area got devastated by floods from both Frances and Ivan. It's hard to believe that could happen in the Mts.

14. I have written many emails to my local
affiliate WGGB about that asshat. Some of his latest "Points" have been that trial lawyers are very very evil *cough* John Edwards *cough* and then last week he flat out said "John Kerry has a history of being weak on defense". I wrote and email and then called WGGB. He has yet to present one fact in any of his "points" they are all right wing talking points devoid of and fact.

But that station dropped their local newscasts, so I don't have to suffer the propaganda, just the canceled Nightlines and P.C.

Sinclair owns our local Cincinnati WB affiliate, Ch 64. I knew WB64 had started a local nightly news broadcast, but I've never watched it, so I had no idea what was on it.
