C-SPAN: Allawi address starting now
He's being greeted like a great conquering hero. Look at all these nice bi-partisan Democrats clapping away.

2. "Thank you America"
I suppose that's a more appropriate thing to say in this setting than "Bush is a dog." But I wonder which is the more commonly held sentiment back in Iraq, Mr. Prime Minister.

8. He's using the 9/11 link to justify the war
Meantime, back in the realm of fact, Sadaam Hussein wasn't involved in a single terrorist act against the U.S. from 1993 (when he tried to assassinate H.W. Bush and was bombed by Clinton) to 2003.

No talk of WMD in this speech. What a total fucking hoax.

Saying there are 50,000 ready to go...hmmm...don't think he's right... Boy - I hate how he's talking like he's really in control...what bullshit!!! "my government..." right...

They should have a split screen of all the bombing and throw a beheading in there too!!!

Like the people of Iraq don't understand that Allawi is nothing more than an appointed employee of the U.S. government.

20. 50,000?
But Rumsfeld said there were 200,000 Iraqi troops all set to defend Iraq. Well, that was before he admitted that only about half of those were really, really trained right. Then he allowed as how, well, fudge, you know how it is, there's really only about 95,000. But they're 95,000 top-notch fightin' Iraqis, ready to do or die for democracy and freedom! Well, once we give them actual weapons that they don't turn around and sell so they can buy food for their families.

And now Allawi says only 50,000? Of course, no one in the media will be so impolite as to notice that the number keeps shrinking. Or that the actual number of trained and fully-equipped Iraqis is a lot closer to zero than it is to one.

12. Anyone else notice the media bashing in this speech?
The media choose to focus on all the violent imagery and are ignoring all the good things that are happening in Iraq.

I'm sure he came up with that angle all by himself.

Tell me something...when was this war all about elections in Iraq?? Didn't we go there to disarm Sadaam and make us safer???? Over 1000 soldiers died so they can have an election??? UN helping them?? UN has 30 people there...he just said over 30,000 election sites...boy these guys will be busy!!!

19. Thank you, berner
This from a President who criticized "nation building" in the 2000 campaign. Now he's taken on the Mother of all Nation Building Projects. And our guy gets tagged as the flip-flopper.

I wouldn't have been surprised had he broke out into a New-England-Texas-American-Iraqi hybrid accent when he started talking about the media.

Edited on Thu Sep-23-04 09:29 AM by speedoo
Misrepresenting almost every issue he addresses. Putting people to sleep. Except of course for the fanatic Wolfowitz and his dem counterpart, Lieberman.

And now the LIE: elections will take place in January... because Iraqi's want them on time!!!

Well, ain't that just fine and dandy.

16. Does anyone ever tell a single shred of truth in congress?
Why the hell do we have it anyway. It's all phony phony phony!

Phonyism and cronyism.

I say term limits, and people get DRAFTED to congress. Ok, maybe that's not the best system either, but jeez, it's got to be better than the joke we have now.

Edited on Thu Sep-23-04 09:45 AM by candy331
something needs to replace those stalwarts who get elected over and over again, we need fresh faces and new ideas and not ones who may have good intentions when they get elected but become corrupt by the Washington political machine.
Clap and applause all they want but Allawi is a hand puppet picked by the US and his mouth is muzzled and all talking points have been handed to him. He will be loved by the US and his enablers until his value is no longer needed, I hope he knows he could and will go the way of many US puppets, just ask Chalabi and go to the Prison and ask Hussein in his own land.

22. The Allawi puppet regime is part of the problem,
not part of the solution. Let there be real elections in Iraq (not the fake elections scheduled for January), and we will see if there is a place for Mr Allawi in government.

It was a Bush* campaign speech, but what could you expect from a guy who lacks legitimacy (and was even rumored to have shot prisoners in cold blood).
