Listening to Allawi...
I heard a great deal of Allawi's speech to Congress today and I was intrigued by his 'command' of the language. It sounded very similar to what we hear from Bush, in content, style, and somewhat stumbling delivery.... although he doesn't have the arrogant and condescending facial expressions down yet. "The world is a safer place," "elections WILL take place in January," "a tiny minority" causing trouble, etc. etc.

At the same time, the death toll soars, much of the Iraqi infrastructure is in ruins, and new factions, all hostile to each other and to the American occupiers, appear every day. Sure, Alawi had some 'success stories.' I appreciate his thanks and admire his courage, if nothing more. Clearly he represents at least some Iraquis, and he has placed himself in a dangerous and difficult position on their behalf. Whatever benefits his position may bring to him they could not possibly be sufficient to compensate for the difficulty he faces. Still, it is hard not to conclude that he has placed his fate in the hands of George Bush, delivered George Bush's speech, and effectively become nothing more than a puppet of the Bush Administration. He did not offer any insight into the Iraqi people that could shed light on how fair elections could be held in such an environment in under 4 months. He added little of substance to a George Bush speech.

2. Only question is, which WH stooge wrote his speeches.
He's a fucking traitor to his Iraqi people, because he refuses to be a true, independent leader.
