For CA peeps- how do you feel about prop 68?
I have a stupid Direct TV dish here in Aspen that only gets West Coast news- ("Well, Johnny Mountin', we've got another HOT one here today") - and I keep hearing about this proposal to make NA casinos pay 25% taxes to help the state- BUT only from these smarmy ads.

What do you think? I just have a feeling I'm not hearing the whole story...

3. that's what I'm thinking
I can see the point of the prop- CA needs money- but the whole reason seems like sour grapes for letting those sneaky injuns come up with a way to take paleface wampum. Why don't they go back to where they came from!
(that's what the ad sounds like)

2. I'm not likely to support it
I've yet to read the entire propostiions (68 & 70), but my initial gut feeling is to vote no. Yeah the tax money sounds good, but I'm not willing to trade increased revenue for Las Vegas style slots and gaming in URBAN areas! We have enough problems as it is without adding all the additional hidden costs of gaming. Things like increased traffic (minor in my opinion), crime (MAJOR),increased alcoholism (Major) couselling for addicted gamblers (not minor), increased bankruptcy rates (not minor), ruined lives & families (MAJOR).

I guess I've really just confirmed my initial gut feelings haven't I?

4. Voter guide on propositions
http://www.ss.ca.gov/elections/elections_viguide_pg04.htm

I usually see who supports and opposes a proposition...

Prop. 68-
Arnold and lots of other government officials
including police against it. Sweetheart deal
for gambling interests and won't do
anything to balance CA budget it states.

I'd say no.

6. I'm very against 68
The big mover and shaker behind proposition 68 is a Canadian corporation that is big in California horse racing. Magna Entertainment Corporation owns three of the five racetracks that would benefit from the passing of the proposition They are also planning to build a huge 250 million dollar mega racetrack (year-round!)/hotel/casino in my little central valley town if it passes. CRAP!

I think Magna Corp is suspect because they have only been around since 1998, yet own fifteen racetracks in the states and are planning more. I'm still working and researching them but I am beginning to think they are too aggressive and too free with the money (they bought the city fathers and our ex-mayor is on the payroll as a PR man!) to be on the level. Call me crazy, but I think they have ENRON values (you know, change laws that benefit themselves a la California energy deregulation).

7. I guess if you want to "game the system"
in a less abstract way than enron, this would be a great way to do it. Then the plasma banks and pawnshops could commence.

8. Sleazy ads. I will vote to keep sovereign the Nations.
So what if they don't pay taxes, they're SOVEREIGN. It's a grift by Schwartzy and the whining Repubes and others.
