Cell phone companies fighting to sell you down the river:
Cell phone companies fighting to sell you down the river

Did you know that your cell phone company is selling you down the river? The cell phone industry is setting up a national directory of cell phone numbers, and telemarketers are chomping at the bit to get your number. When Clark first mentioned this issue in March, the trade association for the cell phone industry claimed it would only put people who “opted in” in the directory. That turned out to be a lie. Verizon is the only company that is not participating in the directory. But all of the other major companies are going to list your number without batting an eye. The phone companies are now on Capitol Hill, lobbying for this to pass. Verizon is the only one speaking out against it. If it does go through, you will get tons of calls from telemarketers and you will pay for all of those calls. The public needs to speak out against this. Let your state representatives know that you don’t want this to become a reality. You have power!

3. Now that most people are on some kind of unlimited plan or other,
it's Katie, Bar the Door..

I am a land-liner..(my phone even has a CORD).. I have the ringer OFF and the answering machine turned on (volume set at 0..) Occasionally I check to see if anyone has called :)

4. Just one more reason that I'm glad that I don't have a cell phone
Damn things are more of a pain in the ass than they're worth. Cost a buttload of money, broadcast your location wherever you go with them, easily and legally tapped, and now you get to pay for telemarketeers to hassle you. No thanks, I'll stick with my landline and answering machine.

Sometimes something new isn't progress.

7. lovely... cell phones are cheaper than landlines here for the same feature
set. (i.e. if I want voice mail and call waiting, it costs me $45 a month for a land line and $30 a month for a cell phone for about the same amount of call time, plus I don't pay for long distance with the cell phone.)

We don't HAVE a land line for just that reason, just cell phones. (Mr. Pcat's company reimburses him for his cell phone.) We've enjoyed the peace and quiet.

Well, it sounds like those not in my phonebook will be talking to my voice mail.

Pcat
