Hope this doesn't come off wrong, but won't a lot of the reasons we NEED it NOW be gone? (NOT that I want it to go moribund or anything!)
:D

I get a little wacky sometimes. ;-)

20. either porn - or guns - depends on the election results!
actually Democratic party folks do a pretty good job of bitching about a Dem in the White House who is not --(left moving, minority aware, civil rights aware, foreign policy aware hawk and dove, etc.) - so that I suspect the board will still be active Kerry wins!

:-)

There are always causes to be discussed-and politicians to watch. We must remain eternally vigilant so the Rethugs don't gain hold of power again.

4. Do you honestly think that the GOP...
will let up, even if they lose? They'll go straight for Kerry's throat, make no mistake about it. Think 'monicagate'.

They have an insatiable will to power, and will impeach even if they KNOW they don't have the votes. No fucking shame in that crowd, no siree.

5. Not at all
Part of being a liberal is that you don't just say "well my guy is infallible and thus hands off for the next four years". People will differ, all you have to do is look back at the ugly ugly primaries. And like Sauron in the LOTR, the Repubs will not be totally crushed but will linger and grow in darkness planning their next attack.

11. DU needs to stay and help fight the BS coming when the Rabid Radical Right
Wing nuts try to blame the Democrats and Liberals for the Shit Storm that is sure to explode in Iraq. We also have to deal with the Financial Crisis looming and threatening to crash down on us.

7. When we win elections the fight only begins
Edited on Thu Sep-23-04 05:05 PM by noahmijo
Because when the left is in charge the right does nothing but try to impede any and all progress. Anything we do no matter what good it is does they will oppose. We try to pass bills that call for better health benefits for soldiers or firemen or police, they will oppose it hands down. We try to push for harsher laws on criminals they will oppose it. We try to kill terrorists they will say we're trying to sway attention away from the fact that somewhere out there there's probably a Democratic politician that might be a homosexual.

The same goes for Air America. The Repukes like to ask what will happen to them after the election, well what will happen is there will be a heavy force to combat the oncoming onslaught of right wing liars who will be trying to convince the country that Kerry is in league with his Communist friends in North Korea to destroy the bible.

8. the right-wingers will still be around
and doing everything they can to wreck Kerry's agenda. Remember how they constantly attacked Clinton?

To help Kerry along, we will need pressure on him to do the right things.

Bush has done an enormous amount of damage, and we need to keep things from falling through the cracks so Kerry can fix them.

12. We'll have to make our voices heard to keep Kerry liberal
and stop the democratic party's move to the right.

Furthermore, as soon as Kerry is elected, we'll have to start working to make him a two-term president. A lot of grassroots work will be necessary in the red states. Something will also have to be done about the "liberal and independent" (:eyes:) media.

21. Processing of war criminals.
For a moment imagine that the Presidency, House and Sentate are in the firm control of Democrats.

The first task would be the identification of war criminals and the sentencing of the aforementioned.

This would mean a lot of tracking down of freepers and Republican Party leaders all the way down to precinct captain.

This will require a lot of work.

Aslo we'd have to move against the National Republican Army terrorist group (NRA) and see if they make good on their "cold dead fingers" promise. My take, they'd wet their pants first, and surrender as cowards. NRA will gladly surrender their membership list for 30 pieces of silver -- they've already been clear on that.

Once we've put both groups on the "permanent felons, never allowed to vote again" list we can reinstate sensible gun controls, and reasonable laws. Until then use the Patriot Act in the same way as the right to disenfranchise them in the democratic process -- since they don't believe in it anyway this is a good thing.

Harvey Briggs.

22. Great question.
Once we get * out of power, we go after the corporate media.

We need to address the issue of Big Media and Republican propaganda - especially their compliance in the theft of the 2000 election, their beating the drums of war for the * criminals, and their overtly biased 2004 election coverage in support of the War Criminals.

23. There will always be a need for DU
Edited on Thu Sep-23-04 05:35 PM by Chovexani
I think part of the reason we're in the mess we're in right now is because liberals got complacent in the Clinton years. Progress was being made on some fronts (but not others, I dont want to turn this into a Clinton flame war please), and I think people rested on their laurels to some extent. We're in right-wing hell now because I think a lot of folks thought it just couldn't happen.

We need to keep Kerry's feet to the fire when he gets in. And we also need to keep up the vigilance WRT the media. You thought the right wing attack machine was bad when Clinton was in office? Repukes hate losing and you can bet they will raise hell from the day he's inaugrated onward.

29. Actually, a Kerry win might divide this forum
Some of us have every intention of holding Kerry's feet to the fire; as a result, a gulf might divide the party loyalists and the leftists. Personally, I think we were too easy on Clinton.

Believe it or not, we might feel nostalgic about the DU circa 2001-2004 (but not Bush, obviously).
