"Hijacking Catastrophe" - Must See - This is IT
I just watched "Hijacking Catastrophe, 9/11, Fear & the Selling of American Empire". I ordered it online and it just got here.

Everyone - and I mean EVERYONE - must see this movie.

It is from The Media Education Foundation (www.mediaed.org) and includes interviews with Lt. Colonel Karen Kwiatkowski, Scott Ritter, Daniel Elsberg, Norman Mailer, Noam Chomsky, Medea Benjamin and more as well as clips of news coverage of events.

It starts with background on some of the key players, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, etc. Then it talks about the evolution of the neo-con agenda of global domination through unilateral force from the "Wolfowitz Doctrine" that was dismissed in the early 90's through the Project for the New American Century.

That's right! Finally! A movie that takes a sane, in depth look at PNAC!

They show the quotes from the September 2000 report, "Rebuilding America's Defenses; Strategy, Forces and Resources For a New Century", including the one about needing a "new Pearl Harbor" to speed things up.

Then they go on to show how this administration has used 9/11 to push their agenda, starting with the Patriot Act, Afghanistan and Iraq.

They talk about how "Shock and Awe" was directed at the world and not just the Iraqi army.

They talk about how this dream of empire is bankrupting our country. About how macho imagery has masked that the architects of this plan have no actual war experience.

They close by talking about what we can expect if the neo-cons are not stopped and about fighting terror and fear with public debate and truth.

I haven't seen the extras on the DVD yet, which include extended 30 minute interviews and an examination of the Economics of Empire.

DVD or VHS for $19.95

2. Theaters vs. the DVD
It is coming out in theaters all over the country and I should have included that in my post.

But it won't be in the Chicago area until October 15 and then just at the Music Box Theater. Many of the showings are one night, one week or matinee shows only.

This movie is big. It picks up where Fahrenheit 911 left off.

Buy it. Share it. Get an extra copy for your local public library.

7. Question regarding Wolfowitz
I was listening to a program on NPR, a lecture given by Sut Jhally, "September 11 and the use of fear" BTW, this is an EXCELLENT lecture -- I can't recommend it highly enough.

Here's a link if you want to listen: http://urbanstar.com/newest/2004/08/sut-jhally-september-11th-and-use-of.html

In this lecture, Mr. Jhally describes a defense document issued at the end of WH's term in office. I believe it was written by Wolfowitz and it outlined what that administration felt were the defense priorities for the upcoming administration. Anywho, this document, according to Jhally, was so shocking and such a complete change of foreign policy that it left many in Congress speechless. (A complete shift of indirect influence to direct (read: military) influence throughout the world.)

I would like to find a copy of this document. You'd think since it was presented to Congress that it would be something semi-easy to locate. Hasn't been the case... or I haven't been looking in the right spots. Does anyone here have it or know where I can get a copy?

11. Are you talking about the January 26, 1998 letter to Bill Clinton.....
.....from PNAC that was signed by Elliott Abrams, Richard L. Armitage, William J. Bennett, Jeffrey Bergner, John Bolton, Paula Dobriansky, Francis Fukuyama, Robert Kagan, Zalmay Khalilzad, William Kristol, Richard Perle, Peter W. Rodman, Donald Rumsfeld, William Schneider, Jr., Vin Weber, Paul Wolfowitz, R. James Woolsey and Robert B. Zoellick?

http://www.newamericancentury.org/iraqclintonletter.htm

The Honorable William J. Clinton
President of the United States
Washington, DC

Dear Mr. President:

We are writing you because we are convinced that current American policy toward Iraq is not succeeding, and that we may soon face a threat in the Middle East more serious than any we have known since the end of the Cold War. In your upcoming State of the Union Address, you have an opportunity to chart a clear and determined course for meeting this threat. We urge you to seize that opportunity, and to enunciate a new strategy that would secure the interests of the U.S. and our friends and allies around the world. That strategy should aim, above all, at the removal of Saddam Hussein’s regime from power. We stand ready to offer our full support in this difficult but necessary endeavor.

The policy of "containment" of Saddam Hussein has been steadily eroding over the past several months. As recent events have demonstrated, we can no longer depend on our partners in the Gulf War coalition to continue to uphold the sanctions or to punish Saddam when he blocks or evades UN inspections. Our ability to ensure that Saddam Hussein is not producing weapons of mass destruction, therefore, has substantially diminished. Even if full inspections were eventually to resume, which now seems highly unlikely, experience has shown that it is difficult if not impossible to monitor Iraq's chemical and biological weapons production. The lengthy period during which the inspectors will have been unable to enter many Iraqi facilities has made it even less likely that they will be able to uncover all of Saddam's secrets. As a result, in the not-too-distant future we will be unable to determine with any reasonable level of confidence whether Iraq does or does not possess such weapons.

Such uncertainty will, by itself, have a seriously destabilizing effect on the entire Middle East. It hardly needs to be added that if Saddam does acquire the capability to deliver weapons of mass destruction, as he is almost certain to do if we continue along the present course, the safety of American troops in the region, of our friends and allies like Israel and the moderate Arab states, and a significant portion of the world's supply of oil will all be put at hazard. As you have rightly declared, Mr. President, the security of the world in the first part of the 21st century will be determined largely by how we handle this threat.

Given the magnitude of the threat, the current policy, which depends for its success upon the steadfastness of our coalition partners and upon the cooperation of Saddam Hussein, is dangerously inadequate. The only acceptable strategy is one that eliminates the possibility that Iraq will be able to use or threaten to use weapons of mass destruction. In the near term, this means a willingness to undertake military action as diplomacy is clearly failing. In the long term, it means removing Saddam Hussein and his regime from power. That now needs to become the aim of American foreign policy.

18. WOAH! Check this out!
I did a quick Google search for Wolfowitz, congress, Feb. 18, 1992, "Defense Planning Guidance" and found a New York Times
10 March 1992 article with the following at the end. Enjoy! :)

http://www.911truth.org/readingroom/whole_document.php?article_id=89

Who Got the Document

On Feb. 18, the draft "Defense Planning Guidance," prepared under the supervision of Paul D. Wolfowitz, the Pentagon's Under Secretary for Policy, was circulated to General Powell, who serves as the President's principal military adviser, the secretaries of all four military departments, Mr. Cheney's under secretaries and assistant secretaries of defense and the chiefs of all four military services.

A week after the draft document was circulated, Adm. David E. Jeremiah, the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that the document would be issued by Mr. Cheney in early March, thus indicating it was in an advanced drafting stage. A cover memo from Mr. Wolfowitz's deputy, Dale A. Vesser, also indicates that the policy statement is near final form and asks recipients to "focus your comments on major substantive concerns."

One 15-page section of the guidance states that it has been approved by Mr. Cheney and begins, "This section constitutes definitive guidance from the Secretary of Defense" to be used in conjunction with "fiscal guidance published by the Secretary on 15 February 1992."

Today, Mr. Williams declined to say when the final policy document would be issued. But owing to its classification as a secret document, the public may not discover for some time how Mr. Cheney resolves the questions that have been raised about the draft.

We now return this thread to it's original topic.

I also found this reference on CooperativeResearch.org with links to various other articles from 1992, but not the report itself.

Wow. I'd sure like to see that. Hell maybe even BUY it. Yeah maybe.

Seems a little pricy. What's up with these school prices?

13. Use the link I provided
I ordered off of the Media Education Foundation website. I bought an "individual" license and paid $19.95. That was before I found the movie's website.

It is $19.95 for the VHS or DVD of the movie. On the website they encourage people to show it to others and give suggestions for how to hold a house party. They suggest holding it at a public place like a library or restaurant if there will be a lot of people, so I wouldn't worry about the other licenses the MEF website offers.

I'm not sure, but I think the school prices are if it will be used as a teaching tool. They sell a bunch of interesting videos that could well be used in teaching journalism and/or current events.

22. Folks, this movie is BIG
This movie takes up where Fahrenheit 911 left off. It goes into detail about the plan for an American Empire. It gives the history and dreams of PNAC. It shows how this administration has used fear and 9/11 to put their plan into action.

I know some of us have plans to show F911 to our friends when it is released on DVD. Show them this one too.

Don't take my word for it. Go to the website and check out the film clips:

23. It's really the best thing I have seen re:PNAC.
My husband had to watch it twice and some of my friends were shocked after seeing it.

I agree with you, it is well worth the money and needs to be seen by everybody. Many well informed democrats I've met volunteering have never heard of PNAC, plus the commentary is well done.
