Even those who would resist the idea must now face the fact of a world war that is being fought by the soldiers of jihad — terrorists — who are focused on much more than the United States.
What must now be re-created is the coalition that the Bush administration forged for the war in Afghanistan — a coalition that included Russia, China, India, Pakistan and Japan.
If President George W. Bush — or John Kerry — brings that together, we will have a partnership that is willing to play by the rules the terrorists follow, which is that there are no rules. That take-no-prisoners response seems inevitable, now that terrorists are trying to make Russia into a second Israel. (continued)
