Can anyone doubt that the right has had it in for Rather for DECADES?
The earliest confrontation I remember was with Nixon.
Nixon was goofing around at a press conference, the sycophants were yukking it up and Rather was trying to get in a serious question about Watergate.
"yes, Mr. Rather," Nixon said. "Are you running for something?"
"No, Mr.President," Rather responded. "Are You?"

I think now he was a marked man from that point on.
If not, then he certainly was after his dust-up with Geo. Bush I, as Herbaht Walkah Bush was trying to shake the "wimp" image. He went after Rather and Rather gave it right back.

The Sopranos have nothing on the Bush Family Evil Empire.

We may have to wait for someone's memoirs, but Rather was set up. How many say 'Amen?' (Just a little Jimmie Swaggart line if you don't mind.)

2. Rather's been a target because he doesn't fawn all over them
Like all the other whores. He's the last of a dying breed, a true news reporter.

8. I've been defending him to a freeper for two days now
And they are just incredulous that I consider him a hero for taking a stand in the current climate. But I do. And I do think he was set up for this fall. Truth will win out in the end, just might take a while. Hope Dan is still around when it does.

Go Dan Go!

4. i cant help but think ...
with everything the mainstream media doesnt cover, that Rather and everyone else have gone soft. There is so much bush* has gotten away with that no one has called him on..... I dont have any sympathy for dan, which makes me feel bad, because he used to be pretty damn good.

5. yes, Dan Rather has never been the Republicans favorite newscaster . . .
why? because Rather was schooled in the shoes of Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite who never licked anyone's shoes, never pandered, and tried their damnest to be unbiased . . . Dan's a dying breed.

But, I wonder, was he set up? That's a question, not a statement. If true or not, I certainly hope that Rather doesn't toss in the towel.

The American news media has trashed itself since the commerical 24/7s removed the "public service" from newscasting and inserted in its place profit-for-profit's sake, the public be damned. Rather has fought that on his nightly news and on 60 Minutes, overall.
