This article is from the San Diego Union-Tribune. It's a good paper if you need something to wrap fish in. Otherwise, :puke:

I read this article and thought that the good folk at DU might just enjoy sending off an email to the idiot who wrote this. I only put first few paragraphs here. Link takes you directly to story - no registering required. :) I hope you can take a few minutes to write to the author. He needs to hear from a LOT of people. :) The 'fair-minded journalists everywhere' line had me lol. He wouldn't know one if he saw one. They don't HAVE any fair-minded journalists at the Union-Tribune!

CBS must can Dan to regain credibility

Dan Rather must go. . . . . And Andrew Heyward must go with him.

Rather and Heyward, the anchor and president of CBS News, have together presided over a fiasco that has called into question their own veracity and competence and reflects on fair-minded journalists everywhere.

If there's to be any accountability, if CBS News is to repair its once-lofty image, if the house that Ed Murrow built will ever again represent the unchallenged standard of excellence in broadcast journalism, Rather and Heyward must accept responsibility.

But they can't do it the way today's politicians do, presiding over calamities, solemnly accepting responsibility but keeping their jobs and pension benefits. With responsibility must come consequences.

snip snip snip

Rather has said that his first concern is "the reputation, integrity and honor of CBS News and the people that I work with. . . . I would never do anything to harm it at whatever expense to myself. I would never knowingly do that."

If he believes that, he must now walk away from his desk.

2. The media ho's seem to have their teeth
sunk firmly into what amounts to another Clinton style penis hunt. Notwithstanding the mountain of blunders, lies, obfuscations, criminal acts and dirty tricks of the right that can be investigated, they find an impropriety by a newscaster to focus all their venom upon. It's a feeding frenzy as such creatures are prone to do. I hope they wind up with a terminal case of indigestion.

3. Done.
Dear Mr. Laurence,

I think you're on to something.

“...a fiasco that has called into question their own veracity and competence...
If there's to be any accountability...
With responsibility must come consequences...
...Somebody has to take the fall, and it must be the two men at the top, the man whose face symbolizes the institution and the executive on whose watch the disaster happened...
But by their failure to vet properly the documents on which they relied, and their tardy discovery that those documents are questionable...
...ignored warnings that the documents might be false...”

Oh, wait! You’re not talking about the forged Nigerian documents that helped propel us into an unnecessary war. You’re not talking about the rush to judgment by an administration which led to the death of thousands. That, I see, is a mere bagatelle. We don’t hold PRESIDENTS to account or expect them even to express regret. We reserve that outrage for NEWS ANCHORS.

Your story would be a satirical masterpiece if it weren’t clear that you didn’t intend the irony.

I am ineffably sad to read that you demand more of a media figure than you do of the President of the United States, the man who holds the most powerful office in the world.

The real failure in the media is by those of you who--whether wilfully or out of real fear--have refused to call to account this abominable excuse for a president. You have unintentionally reminded me of all the brave voices in the press throughout the years who strove to present the truth, without fear or favor.

It is you who should walk away from your desk.

5. Bravo!
I'd love to see the look on his face as he reads that.
Love to see it even more if he'd read it, realize how stupid he is, and admit it in his next column!

6. I was thinking the same thing
Just substitute 'President Bush' for 'Dan Rather' and 'the Bush Administration' for CBS News and bingo! Now that's a real disgrace, if you ask me.
