So What if What they REALLY Want is Civil War in Iraq?
Some pieces of the Iraq puzzle have never quite fit together for me... slowly I have been piecing together a working theory...

What if what BUSHco really wants is a long-term unstable Iraq?

1. It keeps our forces in the region... How better to keep a bead on the oil.
2. Can you say KBR and Halliburton? Profits keep rolling in for the better part of the next decade.
3. If you can 'control' the level of violence in Iraq you can insure HIGHER oil prices...
4. All the Iraqis I know tell me the Sunni and Shia are 'cooperating' to in the insurgency to get the Americans out... the administration 'always' tries to differentiate or divide these two groups...
5. Imagine the partially election scenario evisioned by Rumsfeld yesterday? Sunnis would not be represented in the Government at all... that really IS a recipe for Civil War...
6. The strong resistance to bringing MORE American troops into Iraq to control the situation... makes you say hmmmmmmmmm...

I am very suspicious...!

1. Divide and rule.
You may be sure they prefer a divided Iraq to a unified
one not under our control. That's why you hear the "Civil
War" meme all the time. It's the fallback "solution".

2. That is exactly what BushCo wants for Iraq and Negroponte...
...is just the man to accomplish the job......

Noam Chomsky on John Negroponte's Career From the Death Squads of Honduras to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
<snip>
NOAM CHOMSKY: The sub-heading - it says: “Negroponte Has Tricky Mission”. Then, the sub-heading is: “Modern Pro Consul”. It begins by saying as ambassador to Honduras in the 1980's, Negroponte was known as the Pro Consul, a title given to powerful administrators in colonial times. Now he has been chosen to take up that same role in Iraq, assuming -- there's one problem -- assuming that the Pentagon is willing to cede its control. The big question is whether the Pentagon will control Iraq after they retransfer full sovereignty to them, or whether the Pro Consul, the Modern Pro Consul will run Iraq the way he ran Honduras.

4. Speaking of Negroponte
I haven't seen his mug commenting on Iraq a whole lot lately, have I missed him or is he just quietly working his special brand of evil in some secure basement in Baghdad?

8. Exactly!
I've been saying all along, civil war is part of the neocon's "long game" for Iraq, to justify the "corrective" of dividing the nation along ethnic lines to create toothless bantustans. This way, it's thought, Iraq will never again become a regional threat. Particularly to Israel. Because this has been the Likudniks long-term vision. (If I could search the archives, I'd call upon some quotes from 15-20 years ago from their own mouths that say just that.)

11. Iraqi students (Sunni and Shia) reject the Shia vs. Sunni meme
Most of the country was very relieved to have Saddam gone, while at the same time they want the Americans out yesterday...

Iraqis are incredibly united behind that desire...!
