Anyone remember the "popular wartime President"?
Edited on Fri Sep-24-04 10:43 AM by Sagan
I always know the answer to questions I ask about the corporate media, but why isn't the story of this election how Chimpy lost his HUGE popularity rating and is locked in a virtual dead-heat with a candidate whose campaign was all but dead 8 months ago?

1. It's only a story if the media wants it to be a story.
Whores.

I almost feel sorry for Kerry when he wins cuz they'll start ripping him apart Nov 3.

2. Why wasn't the story in Nazi germany about Nazi power abuses and
atrocities?

Same essential reason, Sagan.

I am so very gald Carl Sagan isn;t alive to see this. But, if you read "The Demon-Haunted World", then you know he DID see it coming...but like so many of us, failed to interpret where it was coming from and where it was going.

Now, it is more than halfway there and Fre America seems like a dream that never even really existed.

3. Well, lots of reasons I suppose
But meme's like "Popular Wartime President" don't really die, they just fade away. Like the Smear Boat Vets. There's been no definitive end to that story; we all know they are full of crap, but while a few people have let that cat out of the bag, the story is confused enough that everybody will pretty much believe what they want.

It's a bit like the Neil Young song, Sun Green

"Next day Sun Green got busted for pot
And it made the headline news
But then the charges all got dropped
And the story gets confused"

I don't know what you can do about it; news anchors even if you don't believe they are rabidly right wing (which I don't) aren't going to be enthusiastic about admitting their mistakes.
