Please Welcome PORT HURON, MICH.'S Dem. Party Headquarters!
I stopped in to get more Kerry stuff on my lunch hour. Ran into Dr. James Gerritts, the "GRAND OLD MAN" of local Democratic Party Politics. Got to meet 81st District Michigan House candidate Mary Patterson and County Commission Candidate Howard Heidemann (who is not anywhere near as paranoid as he thinks he is!) I printed the "Symbiotes and Parasites" article for him: Right up his alley.

Send a email of moral support to these folks-out here in the conservative hinterlands they hadn't even heard of DU, so I signed on from there and bookmarked us. Carolyn Holley from CD-10 has her email posted, and she just told me on the phone that some folks will register here right away.

These folks are up against some ODDS out here: the local paper is GANNETT, and they seem to think Michael Reagan or Michelle Malkin 5 days out of seven on the opinion page is balanced.

Cheers to the Bro's and Sisters!

5. You ain't just shittin' around.
One of the previous County Commissioners (a rePUKE of course) bought a few acres of a wetland to "farm," which under law here he could do, but right after the brush hogs were through, he tried to get it rezoned for condos and apartments, and dared Mich. DEQ to sue him. They declined, and NOW he can't do anything with the land. His kid is now in the state house trying to get the laws changed.

They just aren't rich enough, poor babies.

6. He should be able to build
one single family house (with a limited footprint) where he and his family have to personally reside for, oh, 10 or 12 generations. THEN they can try for re-zoning.

7. Actually, he has to FARM it for 5 straight years....
Edited on Fri Sep-24-04 12:45 PM by Tyler Durden
...before he can do anything else with it under Michigan law.

He was COUNTING on the Department of Environmental Quality suing him. He's so rich he'd planned to string it out, costing the state $750,000 to $1,000,000 and then DEQ would give up, letting him win by default. With DEQ declining to sue, HE would have to sue and then he'd lose, so he's stuck in petpertuity.

How do I know this? His son's best bud is my attorney and all I had to do was needle him a little and he bragged about the plan. REAL evildoers will ALWAYS tell you their evil plans: all you have to do is let them think they can't lose. Ask James Bond.
