Versar gets contract for FL reconstruction: Tell me about this company.
Edited on Fri Sep-24-04 12:57 PM by madfloridian
Wording my question another way, as I do realize local companies are overwhelmed. I guess I should ask if they are going to utilize laid-off Floridians or bring in their own people. In our county it is estimated over a thousand without jobs since Charley.

SPRINGFIELD, Va., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Versar, Inc. (Amex:
VSR) today announced that it was awarded a contract by Campbell Roofing and
Construction, Inc. The contract is to provide emergency repairs management,
health and safety, and administrative support for the Federal Emergency
Management Agency's (FEMA's) reconstruction efforts in response to the recent
Florida hurricanes. Versar/Campbell is providing these services under an
agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, funded by FEMA.
Versar has mobilized employees from across the country, plus several
mobile command centers, to create an incident response center supporting over
500 persons providing temporary roofing and other construction support for
residential and commercial buildings in Florida.
Dr. Ted Prociv, President and CEO of Versar, stated, "Versar is proud to
support the reconstruction efforts in Florida in order to help Floridians
whose houses and businesses were damaged in the recent hurricanes. Our
ability to mobilize personnel and equipment resources from across the country
again demonstrate Versar's ability to respond to threats to America, whether
man-made or from natural disasters."

1. Call a local company in Fort Myers
& they will tell you that they can give you an appointment next year. Local companies here are swamped, As I would assume they are in other hit areas as well.

2. Not to mention -
Edited on Fri Sep-24-04 12:49 PM by bandy
you can't buy a roof tile, roofing nails, sheeting, or anything else to do with roofs anywhere in the state. All contractors are booked up and they bought up everthing they could as soon as the winds died down and before most realized they had a problem. I feel sorry for my neighbors with "blue roofs" and facing one maybe two more storms. Our boat house lost some tile but we're not going to worry about that right now. I'm sure after Jeanne it will be missing a lot more then tiles.

7. Versar Awarded Biological Laboratory Project in Texas
I don't know why this company would be awarded reconstruction for Florida. Maybe I am naive, but I think we were right when we said here at DU that FEMA was now very much oriented toward Homeland Security.

Versar Awarded Biological Laboratory Project in Texas

Versar is one of the few companies that integrates chemical and biological expertise, engineering and architectural design and construction, and environmental skills. The US Air Force has recognized this skill set recently in announcing an award of a task order valued at approximately $750,000 from the U.S. Air Force for the construction of an Epidemic Outbreak Surveillance Advanced Diagnostics Laboratory at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. The laboratory will support the Air Force Surgeon General and Lackland AFB by utilizing advanced diagnostics for real- time identification for both common pathogens and bio-warfare agents. Completion date is June 30, 2004

Federal, Municipal, and private sector customers have turned to Versar for homeland defense services.

Our Homeland Defense Services represent experience gained over 20 years of support to DoD agencies involved with chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction, combined with the expertise of our experienced team of architects and engineers, risk assessors, modeling experts, air quality specialists, facility specialists, health and safety and hazardous materials specialists.
