Ken Paulson, of USA Today, on C-Span2, just said, about CBS
"A blow to CBS and Dan Rather is a blow to all news media."

Previously, he had delineated how the Constitution was originally received by people (not well!), and how they stipulated what they wanted in order to not have an overabundance of authority. One of those things was a free press to question authoroity. Not to be on one side or the other of politics, but to question authority.

5. Question re Hardball with John O'Neil last night -

This might be re-aired later. I'm not a USA TODAY reader and I don't know anything about Mr. Paulson, but I like what I see so far.

3. Quoted Bush about 911..
"Fear and freedom are at war"........said he was correct in that, but it was true on different levels. Gave * a backhanded slap.......

That should get through to some in that audience!

4. Yesterday on Randi Rhodes
Randi said that the story that was pulled to run this vietnam document story was ABOUT THE FORGED DOCUMENTS BUSH USED to take us to war.

So CBS has a current story about the current administration and their current use of forged documents and it gets dumped for a story about a 30 year old event based on documents that prove to be forged.

Guess what--CBS's credibility is now in the toliet. If they run the story about the FORGED documents, they look vindictive and petty and who is gonna believe those liars. Or the mindset will be "Well Dan Rather fell for forged documents so our president can too!"

It is pretty scary how far our government is going to stop the press from reporting about the administration.

My one gripe with C-Span!

Maybe we should email them about it?? I'm sure they know in advance what they are going to broadcast!

17. Kanary...
Go to www.cspan.org/ & at the top of the page in orange lettering, click on "C-SPAN Alert!". Sign up to receive a daily programming schedule. I've been getting them for about a year now; it comes in handy.

USA Today editor: Media must regain trust

By CHRIS JONES
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The editor of USA Today said Wednesday that the news media need to do better in gaining the public trust. "I remember when members of the press were (perceived as) good guys," Ken Paulson said at Vanderbilt University in his first public address since becoming editor earlier this year.

"American news media face unprecedented credibility challenges," he said. "We need to do a better job of building trust with readers."

Paulson said the media have reached a critical moment because so many reporters and editors are content to generate "heat instead of light."
