Have you ever debated freepers or freeper types on-line? It is a pointless exercise. It never follows the lines of intelligent debate. Freepers can't maintain civility or stay away from the insults that are along the lines of Rush's garbage. They will grossly distort and skew your points and use it as an attack and make up facts that you will be wasting time to research and debunk. If your interested in jumping in the mud pit with these types, go to teachers.net, chatboards, politics and you will find plenty of threads to debate freeper types.

It just isn't possible to debate the freepers. Their views are not based on logic or in reality at all really. Even trying basic arguments, like showing how two of their views directly oppose one another, doesn't work. They just continue to spew the talking points they get from the administration and the media.

I gave up on the idea pretty quickly. Nothing really gets accomplished because no meaningful discussion can take place. I think we're better off discussing the issues with sane people, so we can come up with a strategy to move this country in a positive direction.

If you can stand the new "groups" format on Yahoo, I recommend going to the club called "acivilwar".

It's this weird club run by libertarian white rastas somewhere. All viewpoints debating current events (freepers to anarchists) with an absolute rule against uncivility or personal, ad hominem attacks.

I got some freepers sweating over there during the 00 crisis. Then again, it's a better class of freeper who would submit to those rules!

needs to be done on a political and social level, but an opposing view of reality. Simple facts like "no WMD's were found in Iraq" will be countered by things like "That's a lie! This article (scribblings of some neo-con enthusiast nutcase from newsmax or worldnetdaily) proves that the liberal media covered-up the finding of WMD's in Iraq". You'll enjoy hours of debating about things like a supposed mural painted on some building in Baghdad that proves that Saddam Hussein was behind Sept. 11, after which you'll beat your own head to a bloody pulp for not realizing soon enough that you've been wasting your time on someone who apparently lives in a parallel universe.

Or you could have even more fun when you experiment with the idea that communicating with a person who views you as a living embodiment of evil because you question their hideously insane, archaic version of Christianity is actually possible.

That's the way most private forums work.. Whoever OWNS and operates the site gets to decide who they want as visitors.. We don't "entertain" rightwingers here, and they have no use for us at their site..

In order for "debate" to occur, there must be a willingness to compromise..to see the other side..

It's too late for polite debate, anyway.. THEIR side advocates things that are unhealthy for the environment,the economy,the health and welfare of the citizens, and stability of the whole world..No amount of debate will convince a Liberal that THEY are right..and they are too blind to see that their stance is wrong.. end of debate
