1. I think it's a great idea!
It will give Kerry a leg up on the situation when he becomes President.

It also recognizes the true power dynamic in both the US and Iraq.

3. Got your attention!
;)

It is my suggestion. I believe that al Sistani could bring Iraq together in a power sharing mode. I feel that the Kurds and Sunnis respect him enough to listen to him. Perhaps al Sadr will agree and maybe run for office, as well. I feel that the Iraqis should work out their own future and have self-determination. The US isn't interested in actual democracy in Iraq or anywhere else. The bottom line is business. If oil is so freakin' important then the Iraqis could work out a suitable arrangement for oil and other business. First, the following needs to be trashed.

The Hand-Over That Wasn't: Illegal Orders give the US a Lock on Iraq's Economy
by Antonia Juhasz

Officially, the U.S. occupation of Iraq ended on June 28, 2004. But in reality, the United States is still in charge: Not only do 138,000 troops remain to control the streets, but the "100 Orders" of L. Paul Bremer III remain to control the economy.

These little noticed orders enacted by Bremer, the now-departed head of the now-defunct Coalition Provisional Authority, go to the heart of Bush administration plans in Iraq. They lock in sweeping advantages to American firms, ensuring long-term U.S. economic advantage while guaranteeing few, if any, benefits to the Iraqi people.

The Bremer orders control every aspect of Iraqi life - from the use of car horns to the privatization of state-owned enterprises. Order No. 39 alone does no less than "transition from a … centrally planned economy to a market economy" virtually overnight and by U.S. fiat.

Although many thought that the "end" of the occupation would also mean the end of the orders, on his last day in Iraq Bremer simply transferred authority for the orders to Prime Minister Iyad Allawi - a 30-year exile with close ties to the CIA and British intelligence.

4. I think it might be a little too much, what if he sends
some people (high level) to meet with him?

5. Personal and up close.
I feel that J. Kerry should be the leader and request a meeting with the actual leader of Iraq. This would show Amerika and the world that J. Kerry is a real leader, not a puppet as w is.

6. But he would take some major flak
for undermining Allawi.

I think some low key meetings, and then *if* something constructive comes out of it, he shares it with Bush and Allawi before going public.

Just my opinion, don't hurt me.

7. I'd be surprised if BushCo even "allowed" low key meetings -
BushCo will claim it looks like there's two governments in the US. Now, if Kerry would try to get this off the ground, I'm sure that KKKKarl would twist Kerry's effort to inflame the base at home.

8. Bushco doesn't control Sistani
If Sistani wanted to meet secretly with experts from the US, there's nothing they can do about it.

9. You imagine Kerry- Kerry officials can get into Iraq w/out BushCo consent?

Maybe to a neutral site so to speak.

11. is Sistani well enough to travel? - Given that BushCo prob'ly won't -
- won't approve of he and his entourage making a big brouhaha coming and going from Baghdad Int'l Airport - to meet with BushCo's challenger?

It seems that I've read that Sistani is not in the best of health - is he well enough to slip undercover, overland? Where's the nearest neutral site that Kerry officials could travel to with relative security and secrecy?

12. maybe Jordan?
My thinking is it probably wouldn't happen, but it could help the Kerry campaign to get some better information on the situation.

13. al Sistani
Edited on Fri Sep-24-04 05:41 PM by Disturbed
As far as I know he is a private citizen of Iraq but is he also an Iranian citizen? I do not feel that a meeting with him would be considered an "official" govt. meeting since he is not an official of any govt.

J. Kerry needs to get a handle on the Iraqi situation. I feel that any sort of meeting with al Sistani would give J. Kerry a huge boost and it doesn't matter how the Neo Fascists would spin it. My recommendation to the Neo Fascists is "Eat shit and die."!

14. I agree with the better info part.
I also agree that it would show leadership. I also think that it would be a good sign to Iraqis, Americans, and the world. That's why BushCo won't let it happen.

15. Even more of a reason..
that J. Kerry should get in touch with al Sistani. If the Neo Fascists tried to block any meeting it would be a good thing. I don't feel that they would be successful though. I will suggest this on a few sites.

16. It's the right thing to do, it's what a leader does.
Tangential, Kerry's campaign should hammer on the question - "who has Chimpie met with BESIDES his puppets? He's only listening to the "yes men"?"
