Yesterday bush* referred to the poll in Iraq re: right track/wrong track
Has anybody seen this poll? Who polled the Iraqis? Is this like the O'Really reference to the 'Paris Business Daily'? Or is there really a poll in Iraq to ask if it is on the right/wrong track???

And...is it really more positive than how Americans feel about bush*?

I have seen no follow up on that remark?

1. I imagine it would be very hard to poll Iraqi's right now
I somehow doubt a telephone poll would reach a representative sample of the population. And travel is apparently rather risky these days.

2. When they tell you they don't want to be polled,...
...consider yourself lucky that you got a VERBAL answer.

3. He simply made it up on the spot. He has a habit of slipping
out a quick lie to expand a point.

4. Sometime recently on DU there was an Iraqi poll cited which
indicated that Iraqis did not want Bush reelected; they were pulling for Kerry.

5. Back when it was safer in Iraq
This past spring when it looked like things might be getting better, just before all hell broke loose, some poling was done of the Iraqi people.

I have this link to a BBC report of polling done in March:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/3514504.stm

I'm pretty sure CENTCOM did some polling too, but I didn't save it.

The reporter asked about polls done in the past, including by CENTCOM, in his question. Bush jumped on the CENTCOM reference to say that Americans are not in charge anymore. The inference was that any polling done way back when the Americans were in charge (sarcasm alert) are no longer valid and therefore he can ignore the substance of the question.

6. I know the poll is from July, if that helps
But I looked all over and couldn't find a poll from the period that approved of the US occupation or seemed to say that the Right-Track/Wrong Track figure was better than the US.

This poll actually said that 80% polled approved of the interim government. That is a lot better than approve of Bush; maybe that's what he's getting at. This is the only "Iraqi people" poll with published results. There are oblique mentions of polls taken by the CPA of Iraqis, but no details. I guess they can say whatever they want!

There was a poll in July commissioned by the CPA which polled Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates.
They don't like us. (july 23, 2004 Washington Post)

Surprise! Bush is slippery on this one. I can't pin him down to a particular source. Can anyone else?
