Bloomberg Likes Locking Down NYC - Helicopters Are Back Tonight
The first attack against protestors during the RNC was the arrest of 250 bicyclists from Critical Mass - a mass bike ride that has taken place one Friday a month for years. It is in support of ecological alternatives in transportation.

Tonight the helicopters are circling overhead again, because Critical Mass is riding again and NYPC has promised to arrest them.

Bloomberg has tasted blood. He is desperate to stifle dissent in New York.

Bloomberg=Bush

1. That's really police-state-ish!
When I attended the anti-war demonstration in Union Square on September 2 (the night of *'s speech at the RNC convention), I never saw so many helicopters in my life! Or so many cops!

2. Bloomberg's heavy handedness
cannot be faring well in the five boroughs, especially Manhattan. Or am I incorrect in this assumption?

4. What a maroon.
He must be really delusional to think that NY'ers are gonna tolerate that bullshit come the next election.

But, the next question is: Who do the dems have to run against him?

6. You are correct, he's gone way overboard.
Everyone I know hates him - it's this paternalistic, law and order, "I know what's best for you" kind of thing. Plus, he'll never be forgiven for bringing the RNC to NYC and for Guantanamo on the Hudson.

I can hardly wait to vote his ass out.

7. I saw the choppers too. 4 of them hovering over midtown/westside.

Bloomburg is an ass. I've never seen more cops bumping into each other in my life. Well, actually, most are looking busy but mostly checking out chicks and chatting it up with each other.

And what are they going to do if there is a chemical, terrorist attack? Thwart it? Highly unlikely. They are going to call it in to hq, like anyone else would.

9. So there were nine arrests - not as many as RNC week
Edited on Sat Sep-25-04 10:09 AM by Stephanie

But there never used to be any arrests at this event - it's a peaceful group bike ride.

Cyclists roll out peaceful protest

Protestors on bicycles took to the streets of Manhattan last night, but it was a smooth ride compared with what happened before the Republican National Convention.

The 800 cyclists who turned out yesterday wheeled around town for about an hour to promote environmentally friendly forms of transportation. There were eight arrests for disorderly conduct and obstructing traffic at 36th St. and Fifth Ave. and one more at Union Square, police said. Cops seized about 33 bikes abandoned on Seventh Ave.

On Aug. 27, more than 5,000 bicyclists brought parts of Manhattan to a standstill, and cops made more than 230 arrests.

Dubbed Critical Mass, the group rides have been staged the last Friday of every month for years, but none put the brakes on vehicular traffic like the one before the convention.

Last night, police helped keep the ride going by stopping traffic with their scooters.
