Troop documents conflict with Bush claims
Fewer Iraqis to be trained by end of year than president cited

WASHINGTON - Fewer Iraqi security forces will be fully trained by the end of this year than cited by President George W. Bush and it will take until July 2006 to fully train the police force, according to Pentagon documents.

With interim Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi at his side, Bush said on Thursday that nearly 100,000 fully trained and equipped Iraqi soldiers, police officers and other security personnel are already working and this number would rise to 125,000 by the end of this year.

But documents prepared by Defense Department officials and given to lawmakers show that fewer than 100,000 will be trained by the end of this year. The Pentagon also said on Monday that only about 53,000 of the 100,000 Iraqis on duty now have undergone training.

The documents, obtained by Reuters, show that of the nearly 90,000 currently in the police force, only 8,169 have had the full eight-week academy training. And it will be July 2006 before the administration’s new goal of 135,000 fully trained police is met.

1. I watched some of the congressional hearing on c-span.....
A Democratic Rep. from NYC was reading all of those REAL numbers and comparing to what chimpy* spouts off daily. It was quite shocking to see it all laid out like that. They are LIARS people! It is right there in B&W!!!!

3. Ever notice how 'nuance' is OK as long as it's
Repukes fudging the numbers? Logic is the kind of nuance that they can't seem to stomach.

I would actually like to see a tally of the lies told at public speaking appearances made by members of this administration to see what kind of ratio there was to the truth. I'm guessing lies would be on the high side...

6. That certainly scratches the surface, but is relegated to only
a few key issues. What would be even more enlightening is an in depth study of ALL speaking engagements by any and all members of this administration, with a ratio of engagements to lies told. I'm wondering if there would be a single one without a lie in it.

2. And still, the WH stands by the 100,000 figure cited by Bush
"The White House stood by the 100,000 figure cited by Bush, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said."

These people have perfected the art of staring you in the eye and lying even when you are holding the proof in your hands.

5. They'll probably claim the documents were fake and typed up on a 1971 IBM
Selectric with superscript capability and in the haste to get the information to the press, the author simply missed a zero...it should read 81,690...yeah yeah, that's the ticket...like my wife, Morgan Fairchild.

7. Great Idea for New Ad

from www.johnkerry.com ---

"This should be a new ad --

George Bush's idea of "optimism" Don't like the truth - hey just make up "rosy info." No one wants Iraq to be a mess -- but making up stories doesn't make the troops safer.

The "rosy story" Bush gave us this week? We have almost 100,000 Iraq policeman trained, and 125,000 will to be trained by this January.

Rosy? yes, True? No. Sadly, not even close.

Bush's plan: Pentagon said Monday that only about 53,000 of the 100,000 Iraqis on duty now have undergone training. Only 8,169 have had the full eight-week academy training. We won't have 125,000 train Iraq police until 2006.

Kerry's plan: Bring in NATO and our allies to train Iraq as police both inside and outside Iraq. Accelerate training rapidly.

Optimism begins with hope; Hope begins with a real plan. Kerry has one. A new direction in Iraq.
