Folks here are just numb. We are under or will be under hurricane warnings, with hurricane force winds throughout our county and to the east of us.......the SAME areas that were so devastated before.

I feel bad for us, but I feel worse for those on the east coast.

1. I think it is a sign..
Like Bush I too believe in signs from God, and I believe that God is telling Florida that they better not screw up the elections again..God wants Bush gone, and these hurricanes are just the tip of the iceberg of what will happen to us if he gets back in!

if "God" wanted bush* gone
then bush* would have burst into flames on the WH lawn long ago.

"God" would not indiscriminantly cause thousands of innocent people, many of whom voted against bush, to suffer.

"God" has never played an active hand in the lives of ANY humans, regardless of their vote in the 2000 "election"

sheesh

3. I've been in Central Fl. helping out my dad for the past 3 weekends
So far his part of town has been fortunate. There are still tree limbs/debris on his street and the surrounding neighborhoods that have yet to be picked up.

I'm also a tad miffed about what's been going on at the Lakeland Civic Center the past few days. Now If it turns out these people accepting food stamps are hit today or tomorrow and actually NEED assistance I'll calm down but to have Federal money distributed in such a careless way PISSES ME OFF.

Stay safe everyone.

4. Wasn't that terrible? No plan at all.
I am sure some of those folks really needed the assistance, whether because of the hurricanes or just being needy. The sad part was the lack of planning, and maybe many turned away who really needed the food vouchers.

That said, there should NOT be foodlines in our country! Something is wrong with that picture. We should be managing to take care of our needy.

From the Ledger.

5. I'm not condemning all of them
but through conversations I had with several people last night there were some greedy people taking advantage of the offer. They openly lied about income and hurricane damage since you were only asked to provide a picture I.D. and SSN. I was stunned at the "I'm getting my share" attitude.

Sad.

6. When I was a kid back in the 50s there were lots of hurricanes
that made it up to Connecticut. In 1954, ’55, ’56 there were many that did extensive damage all the way up the East coast. The one in 1956 caused the river to rise and half the downtown of Norwalk, Connecticut, fell into it. Bridges were washed out and the Army had to come in and build Bailey bridges.
