Is George W. Bush Still a Booze Hound? I wonder?
In George W. Bush's autobiography he writes how he turned in his life around and stoped drinking after his 40th Birthday in 1986. The http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/profilebush.htm">USA Today article
"In the hangover after a boisterous 40th birthday party in 1986, Bush decided to give up drinking as part of what he describes as a broader and more gradual spiritual awakening."

But if Bush really did stop drinking in 1986 then why is he seen in this video from http://www.thesmokinggun.com/bush/bush.html"> The Smoking Gun boozin it up in August 29, 1992 at the wedding of Jamie Weiss.

Personally I have no problem with someone having a few drinks and good time. But Bush is a self proclaimed acholic. He obvious lied about when he decided to quit. So the question still remains how long has George W. been sober and is he still drinking?

3. Alcoholics who stop drinking without treatment
just don't have a very good prognosis, no matter how much they say they love Jesus. That's just the way it is. It's one hell of a disease, and you can't beat it without the help of other people who have managed to beat it.

I think he probably binges on the sly, and I also think he's been monitored 24/7 for the past few weeks to prevent it, because his speech is less slurred and his walking is quite a bit steadier.

Large doses of thiamine can reverse some of the motor problems, but only if the alcoholic has stopped drinking. The cognitive problems he's displaying are permanent. They will worsen if he continues to drink.

4. i think he's permitted some "downtime"
i think they schedule him to be unavailable from time to time for long enough for him to have a few drinks and recover without being overly obvious.

i also suspect he's on medication that you're not supposed to drink while taking. my guess is that even a small amount of booze amplifies the effects.

i would not be surprised if they spike his soup just so he doesn't get the dt's.

5. eyewitness account from a friend of mine in Texas...
... who was a waitress at a place where W frequented back in his baseball days, which was well after his 40th birthday when he supposedly wasn't drinking anymore. Yet he definitely was -- they were instructed to serve him his bourbon in those red plastic glasses they usually serve water & soft drinks in.

He was a customer from hell, too -- demanding, finger-snapping, rude, open contempt for the waitstaff, and never tipped.

7. Sounds like him
Even if he has stopped drinking, he has habits of thinking and behavior that all alcoholics have---inability to take responsibility, lying, black and white thinking---and those don't stop even though the drinking may stop. This is what a recovery program deals with and he's never gone through recovery, so he is still fucked.

6. Bush doesn't drink for the high
He is a well-traveled, highly civilized and worldly man, a connaisseur of fine spirits and he only drinks Veuve Cliquot French champagne before his meals, finely aged brandies from the Armagnac region as a digestif after the meal, and for the main course he's especially fond of Chateau LaFitte Rothschild 1946, a wine he enjoys with his favorite dishes of Ris de Veau aux St Jacques Grillées, Chateaubriand, or Bouillabaisse de Marseille.
