7. My dad, brother and aunties live in Boca (kickapoo)
My brother is videotaping Jeann as he did Frances as the storm comes in he will be sending video clips to me of the REAL thing, not the potted palms you see on CNN. He says there are monster tree stumps all over the place before this one comes in. I'll share what I can, keep kicked so I can add.

12. His wife answered the phone but was on another line with her
sister. She said they'd call back.

I wasn't expecting anyone to answer the phone because I thought they would have gone to Georgia as they did last time.

I tried my brother's cell phone and had to leave a message. I'll let you know what happens though.

Port St. Lucie and she is staying in her home, having had a lousy experience in the shelter the last time. The coverage on the TeeVee looks so bad, I am really worried about her and her husband (he's not very well). Good luck and warm wishes to everyone that is facing this terrible storm.

On edit: MSNBC just showed some tape from Port St. Lucie, of a reporter being blown down. Yikes. Stay safe, everyone.

Edited on Sat Sep-25-04 04:56 PM by janx

is already out there. He said it was because things are still messed up from the last hurricane--electrical wires tied in place with nylon rope, etc. Anyway, there are still homes in the area without roofs--just plastic. And there's still a lot of debris from the last hurricane that will undoubtedly get tossed around by this one. His fence is trashed, for instance, and there is other stuff like mattresses, tree branches, and so on.

15. No doubt.
We're on the other side of the peninsula (Tampa Bay area) and are already starting to see the storm. Heavy cloud cover, gusty winds (not powerful, but definitely present) and the power has been flickering (thank goodness for laptop batteries).

and even though the eye will not pass near her area, they will still get a lot of rain and wind. She has had her house boarded up since Charlie and will just stay that way until the end of the hurricane season. In fact, her entire neighborhood has been boarded up since Charlie and no one is taking down their plywood until the end of hurricane season.

21. I just talked to my dad in Boca.
They evacuated for Frances, but are sticking this time. Reason...He just bought a new car 2 days ago and it's in the garage!!! Actually, they are tucked deep in a cul de sac and there are no large trees around him unlike my bro. My dad says it's blowing and the lights are flickering. They have plenty of supplies but sheesh! he's 83 years old! We're calling every hour or so as we can and my brother is only two blocks from them and the aunties. Wish these sweet people luck!

24. I'm talking to my niece--
whoops, just lost her. The eye wall is either rapidly approaching Palm Beach Gardens or it just hit...!

They're all boarded up in their house, still with no electricity. The girls are very bored and the dog has to go out. Every once in awhile they hear thumps, etc.--at one point something hit the sky light, but they don't think it's broken. My brother installed and calked some plywood under the skylight so that if it does break, water can't come in and the wind can't mess around with the pressure inside the house.

Tree stumps lying around like missiles waiting to be launched. He says there aren't alot more trees to fall hah, hah,,NOT! I'm looking for an image that was available during the Frances watch which is a grid close up of Miami to West Palm Beach. Anyone got a link?

31. Yes, there's a lot of stuff flying around--left over from Frances.
I don't have a link to that--sorry. But this hurricane is so remarkably similar to the last one, at least in terms of its path. The eye seems to be just a little south of where that of Frances hit, but not by much.

I might try and call again. From what the Weather Channel says, it was exactly at 10:00 Eastern that the eye wall hit.

Darn it, that's what happened. I just tried to call and got a fast busy signal. I hope they're all right!

One thing my niece (the older one) did tell me is that Frances took the roof off of her school.

Good luck to them and all Floridians, they've really had a tough time of it this year!

My 91-year old grandfather lives about 20 miles north of Tampa. So far he's been lucky - no damage to his house from any of the storms.

and the winds are starting to pick up here already.

It's going to be a long day tomorrow, from the looks of it.

I just hope we don't lose our electric again. I was out for four days with Frances. What a pain in the butt.

between Melbourne and West Palm is taking a hit. Jupiter, just as last time, is taking a large brunt of the storm.

Have you tried phoning him?
