Gilmore on Crossfire
It seemed like an odd comment from Gilmore yesterday about Saddam and Oil?

http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0409/24/cf.00.html

GILMORE: But it's this. But it's the big picture.

And the big picture, James, is this. You're going to have to do something to transform the Middle East and create a more stable situation. You can't do that with a dictator like Saddam Hussein in charge of all that oil. And the president went in there to make sure that we were going to be sure to deal with the situation.

1. P.J. did allright, as to the oil question
I would estimate that 80% of Americans think the Iraq war was at least partly influenced by oil.

The 20% are idiots.

2. I heard Newt Gingrich
on Meet the Press say "Do you want Osama bin Laden in control of all that oil over there?"

Are these neocons finally admitting the truth?

3. This passes for analysis?

"And the president went in there to make sure that we were going to be sure to deal with the situation." Huh???

Dictator like Saddam in charge of all that oil? Lessee, Iran is run by a revolutionary council. Saudi Arabia is run by a dictatorial family, as is Kuwait. So's Bahrain. So's Oman.

Translation: we've almost used up our reserves of oil, so we're going to take control of theirs, one way or another.

This passes for logic amongst conservatives.
