Herbert Marcuse is blowing my mind!!
Listen to this quote of his.....and think about Bush and the Iraq war while reading:

"Obviously, in the realm of the Happy Consciousness, guilt feeling has no place, and the calculus takes care of conscience. When the whole is at stake, there is no crime except that of rejecting the whole, or not defending it. Crime, guilt, and guilt feeling become a private affair...Those who identify themselves with the whole, who are installed as the leaders and defenders of the whole can make mistakes, but they cannot do wrong - they are not guilty."

YOWZA!!!!

Way to indict from the grave Herbie!!!!

1. what is the source of this quote???
I had the opportunity to attend a weekend workshop in 66 (I think) at which he was the featured guest.

It was about the same time that Angela Davis was becoming so (in)famous; Marcuse became widely known in the US because he was/had been one of her teachers.

2. It's from "One-Dimensional Man"
Wow!
I'm jealous that you got to see him in person.

But, I wasn't born yet when you saw him.
