my kids went to church today
these godly folks recruit 12 to 18 year olds,
summer camps - after school activities - mostly ok stuff
lately they have been providing transportation to sunday services
today the preacher talked about how important it was to have a christain president. that kerry wants to kill babies by abortion
well today my kids and their friends caused a riot by attacking the war, claiming jesus would not kill anyone and bush kills everyone.
they were dropped off minutes ago and asked not to return
my children are born again savages

1. Bush can't claim to be "Pro-Life" as he sends people to KILL and be KILLED
Jesus had a word for this, as Bush should alread know.

He called it "hypocrisy".

9. Bush's first child was aborted in 1971 when it was illegal
Google Bush Robin Lowman abortion

As far as I know, none of the women in Kerry's life have ever had an abortion. Kerry is such a good Catholic that he had his first marriage annulled.

This is what I've been working on lately, but it's hard. I hope I'll be better at it if I ever have kids!

18. Very proud of your children
I didn't grow up in a politically-biased church or time. This has been an unusual evolution of the church in the last 20 years or so. These padres need to be told that if they want to be politicians, then they should run for office. Otherwise, they should practice their faith without their individual political spin. Have that parson talk to me about this. I'll straighten them out.

17. Sad.
It's really sad that no one can go to church anymore w/out being exposed to a stream of right-wing propaganda. After all, we all know that Jesus hated everyone who was not Christian and white, supported shafting poor people, supported raping theeart, and the only thing he's against is abortion.

19. I don't think some of them even study
the teachings of Jesus anymore. They worship nationalism according to the Heritage Foundation and the flag of the US. It's becoming nothing but a symbol like the old Nazi flag.

21. Offering some hope - I hope!
At the same hour as your children's foray into fundamentalism, I was where I usually am Sunday mornings - leading the senior high school Sunday School class at my church.

Last Sunday we talked about faith and politics - the good, the bad and ugly. I have several 17 and 18-year-olds who will have the chance to cast their first vote this November. This morning, my husband came along as my show and tell project. A Palestinian Muslim who also happens to be a lifelong advocate of nonviolence and inclusive theology - he was a big hit, and gave the kids a chance to ask questions about all kinds of things (religion and scripture, interfaith dialogue, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, life after 9/11 for an Arab American -- you name it, we talked about it!).

There are indeed church leaders who are interested in peace, justice and truth in the country - even in the Deep South (my neck of the woods!). And we will continue to speak up and stand up against those who would hijack our religion for their own very "unholy" purposes.

Perhaps your kids will join our ranks one day (if they ever set foot in a church again!)

22. May I ask what denomination it was?
I attend a non-denominational Christian church and I have never experienced that kind of foolishness. I was just wondering what kind of church it was.

23. non-denomination
they seem to be making the rounds here. to date four different chapels. early on i also visited, but did not feel compatible.i want my kids to be free thinkers and to explore. right after 911 i gave them all an assignment. pick a religion and come to the table with its pov. it was amazing. the dominating theme was "be nice". i have to note here that this is my second time around raising kids. my biological kids were grown. i was a foster mom when i met these 3 siblings and adopted them because they were deemed unadoptable. they have taught me more than i teach them.

25. You sound like a terrific foster mom!
I admire you for allowing your children to explore new religions like that. It's too bad they don't do that in the schools--there might not be so much hate for each other's religion if everyone understood more what each religion is about.

Your children hit the nail on the head--most religions are peaceful. It's our ignorance that brings out the hate among us.

Congrats on raising what sounds like bright and intelligent kids!

:)

27. Maybe they should try a Unitarian church
I have never been to one myself, but I had a friend who went to one and she loved it. The church sounds very open minded. They openly accept gay people and allow them to be church leaders. The church doesn't preach any particular religion, but instead discusses common themes among several religions. The idea is help individuals develop their own spiritual beliefs, instead of forcing them to conform to someone else's beliefs. It doesn't seem like the type of church that would push political propaganda of any sort.

24. If the church records the sermons, get a copy and turn them in
to whoever (federal elections commission?) investigates. Let them see how it feels to lose their tax exempt status.

Your kids are smart people. Welcome to DU. :bounce:

:eyes:

Kudos to your kids though for not staying quiet in the face of hypocrisy and lied. A lot of people think children should be silent and respectful in the presence of their elders, but that's just a recipe for more sheeple.

30. Find another church.
That one will poison your kids' minds. It seems like they are busy recruiting the Bushler youth. It's the same MO as Hitler's Youth, camping, swimming, sports and a big fat dose of indoctrination.
