I'm donating a small amount of $ to Kerry campaign and have a question
I'm only giving $20 and this is the first time I've been able to donate. On the back of the donation slip it says to fill out your name, address and phone number, plus the name of your employer and their phone number. I refuse to give out any info about my employer.

It says you have to fill it out if you've given over $200, but I just want to make sure.

2. not to worry Miss Bevey..
They're just making sure that some big corporation isn't trying to donate through it's employees.. and you are way below the reporting threshold

3. As far as I know
it's only if your total contributions to the Kerry campaign for this election cycle (after he was nominated) have reached $200.00. But I'm only basing this on what I knew during the primaries.

You can always put 'self' as your employer, if you want to put something in the box.

Whatever you do, just GIVE THE MONEY! :D (and we all say thanks!)

4. It's FEC-required information for donations...
... over $200, so they can be tracked.

Leave the employer off. If they can't take your money without it, then I'm sure they'll let you know. :)

5. They're required to ask for your employer.
Note, they're only required to ask -- you don't have to give them your employer's name. I've written/typed 'prefer not to reveal employer' and nobody's ever called or e-mailed me to question that, so I'm guessing it's election law that they are required to ask for that information, but that many people (especially people who, like me, work for nonprofits) probably balk at giving that information. If they called and asked me, I'd probably give it to them, but with organizations like Opensecrets posting contributor information (as they're allowed to do), I'd prefer not to have my employer's name given out as public information.

6. Thanks for supporting Kerry!
I've donated here and there and I have never put down my employer's information. Don't worry--they won't beat down your door or anything.

:hi:
