Zarqawi Could Take War To West
Why are we NOT getting this guy?

(CBS) Abu Musab al Zarqawi continues to wage his war in Iraq. It's the number one destination for holy warriors, many of whom now come from the West.

"Those terrorists will, sooner or later, mount operations both in Europe and in the United States," says CBS terrorism consultant Rohan Gunaratna.

Police and intelligence agencies say Zarqawi's now powerful network extends from Iraq to Syria, Turkey, Chechnya and Europe, smuggling people through porous borders, using fake documents. As CBS News Correspondent Sheila MacVicar reports, it's a network that experts say will undoubtedly spread to the U.S.

A bug planted by Italian police in a Milan mosque in 2001 caught al Zarqawi operative explaining how the network is expanding: "We need foreigners. We have Albanians, Swiss, English. The important thing is that they are very cultured."

1. Yesterday the Neo Nazis had a rally
in Valley Forge and some of the rhetoric included the usual antisemitism only they were openly advocting the overthrow of the government and condemning the war in Iraq as the "Jews War". I could see a very frightening scenario where ME terrorists get together with domestic terrorists here in the states and really cause some serious destruction.

8. This seems to be a fact lost on the elite Republicans and Evangelicals.
I don't think any of them undersatnd history and culture and racism. They use them all but have no understanding of any of them.

7. And to think that nobody even knows what he looks like
and if he even has one leg or two. They can pretty much parade anyone before us and say it's him, none would be the wiser.

3. Apparently, you are not getting your Daily Mislead
Edited on Sun Sep-26-04 10:00 PM by neebob
One of last week's was about how, three times during 2002-2003, the Pentagon drew up plans to go after Al-Zarqawi and the White House killed them because they felt it would reduce support for the war.

I will try and find the link to that specific email. In the meantime, go here: http://www.misleader.org

P.S. I love my Daily Mislead.

4. Rohan Gunaratne is full of shite...
and I wouldn't bother listening to anything he says. His 'expertise' is in the conflict between the Tamil Tigers and the Sri Lankan government, not the ME or Islamic terrorism.

5. Because he's USEFUL
Bush had the chance to take him out, but didn't. So much for attacking the terrorists before they attack us. :grr:
... NBC News has learned that long before the war the Bush administration had several chances to wipe out his terrorist operation and perhaps kill Zarqawi himself — but never pulled the trigger.

...

Military officials insist their case for attacking Zarqawi’s operation was airtight, but the administration feared destroying the terrorist camp in Iraq could undercut its case for war against Saddam.
