The mother of the dead soldier on NPR
I heard this on NPR early this morning as I was driving in to work. They were interviewing the mother of a dead soldier. She said how she prayed for her son to come back but that God had had other plans. But it was okay because this is a "spiritual war" and not about oil or politics and everything is pre-ordained and explained in the bible.

Oh, please! Not about oil or politics, etc.? Another person out of touch with reality.

8. "Spiritual War". I heard that this morning on NPR
and almost drove off the road. "We need to keep a Christian in the WH because he's the only one who knows how to fight a 'spiritual war'." I kid you not.

Guess this is the euphemism now for Holy Wars. Spiritual War!! Can you even believe this crap?????

My country has gone insane. Totally fucking bonkers.

3. Does Scott Simon
still work for NPR or did he feel so strongly about it that he has actually enlisted in the Marines to go back into Fallujah. What a war whore. I have never been as disappointed in a reporter as I am in his case. He is the Dennis Miller of journalism.

4. Even God didn't allow Abraham to sacrifice Isaac.
The Christian extremists in this country scare me more than any Islamic fundamentalist. They're just as whacked out as they are, and the only thing keeping them from becoming full-blown Christian jihadists is the fact that they are financially comfortable and in power.

If the bottom drops out of our economy, and it will, watch out.

6. That is an excellent response!
Thank you, I may have need of that one. I hadn't thought about Abe and Isaac in a while.

5. Well....right there is a big part of the GOP base, like it or not...
Hell.. we had ultra kook Falwell in town last week kicking up the flames and raking in the dough at a local church for a full blown Constitutional ban on Gay marriage. I didn't hear attendance numbers but I'm sure it was a sold out affair.

Religious nuts and gun nuts, without them the GOP couldn't win any elections...

9. I heard that creepy shit
Made the mistake of listening to npr this morning. Another family member said * was a (and I quote) "devouted" Christian. The "spritirual war" he said, was "foretold in the bible, you can read it." And he assured us all that the government had good, secret reasons they wouldn't reveal to us to be in the war.

More and more I reall a line from Frank Zappa's "Concentration Moon:" 'Scab of a nation driven insane.'

Sheeple zombies...scary shit!

10. "Onward Christian Soldier"!
I heard it as well. It was pretty scary listening to the Father's remarks too. "George bush* is a Christian man and I trust his words". These people are the ones bush* counts on for votes and for cannon fodder. I really want to feel sorry for their loss but they did not act like they lost anything. Like it was a good thing!
They are nuts...

12. Doesn't this make everyone sad?
There are several military resistance organizations that have sprung up: Military Families Speak Out, Iraq Veterans Against the War and Veterans for Peace. But apparently, their reach exceeds their grasp thus far.

Instead, this mother searches for something that can give her son's death (and life) meaning. The alternative -- that her son died for a mistake, to paraphrase JFKerry from 1971 -- is just too awful for her to contemplate.

13. And, they call the Muslims fanatics.
I heard the bit on NPR. I've also heard the same from Muslim parents.

All in the name of a benevolent God who is looking out for children.

Totally insane. I felt sorry for their son. But they sounded pretty cold. I didn't detect a single bit of sadness in their voices.
