We should make every Wednesday, reach out to a redneck day
Edited on Mon Sep-27-04 12:45 PM by Melodybe
One thing that Bushco is taking for granted is the fact that rednecks don't trust politicians or the government.

Those that are still voting Bush aren't happy and say that there is a lot about Bush that they don't like. They are unhappy with his Saudi connections, it is a great topic to bring up while talking to a freeper. Plus recent reports show that the US now has more billionaires than ever before, other reports show that there are more homeless people in the last 4 years. These are good topics to bring up as are Bush's plans for illegal immigrants. Freepers don't know what to say other than they are not happy with everything Bush wants to do.

Even if they are not the brightest, red necks sure are jealous of rich people and if we can show them that Bush only likes other rich people, we may be able to win them over or get them not to vote Bush.

Don't write off red necks, personally I think that they are the saddest group in the country, they are being ripped off by Bushco and they are being laughed at.

We should have Wednesday "Reach out to a Redneck day." Be as nice as you can and get them with kindness and facts, if they are stubborn DO NOT BE A JERK, say we will have to agree to disagree and shake their hand and wish them well.

It is working here in MS and I am getting through to flks, they may not be Kerry voters but they sure are having doubts about Bush.

1. You can't reason
with a real red neck. You can talk to poor southerners though.

2. Yes you can, and people are so hard hit they are make willing
to listen.

I also talk about things that Clinton did that make me mad, ie. further deregulation of the media is a big one.

5. I'm pretty sure that Foxworthy is a democrat
I would be sad if he wasn't.

4. Once again, reneck is a deragotory term just like many other
racial and ethnic epitaths. Substitute any of those other unacceptable epitaths in your post and reread it. You would consider it to be offensive and uncalled for.

6. Better yet, go to the homeless shelters
There's an awful lot of working poor who are not registered to vote. These people are naturally going to lean our direction, and yet we spend very little time registering these people to vote, and getting them to the polls to vote.

We're working on a project locally to get to the shelters and get these people registered, and possibly even voting absentee if they can't make it to the polls. There's a large percentage of the homeless these days who are perfectly sane, but don't make enough money from their two jobs to afford a place to live.

These people are a part of our base, and yet we still ignore them, instead focusing on the fickle 5% of the population who votes based upon hairstyles and accents, and who would just assume vote for Paul Wellstone as Dubya (no joke-- I heard this from an "undecided" voter on the radio this morning).

Let's make sure we get ALL our base to the polls, too. That way we don't rely on that fickle 5% to make or break our campaign.

8. Be sure to wear a John Deere hat
Trust me, I know what I'm talkin' about.

I do agree that you can reach the undereducated people though. Right now, the Republicans in the South are waging an "us against them" campaign, but they refuse to concentrate on real issues and most people are seeing through the hate rhetoric now.
