Hunh, I am not registered to vote????
I have not missed a vote since I turned 18 in 1972, I have lived in the same location for 17 years, yet I got the email below from True Majority.

Anyone else get this email? Do you know how I can double check on this? Can someone be penalized for re-registering if you are already registered?

Anyway, I urge everyone to double check! Out of any election in my lifetime I am not gonna miss this one for anything!

Dear steve:

We’ve been hearing a lot about voter intimidation, purging of the rolls and computer voting glitches. So TrueMajority and a bunch of other nonprofit organizations pooled our resources to check and make sure our members are registered to vote. Now we are alerting our members who may have been dumped off the list and may be stopped from voting in this November’s critical election.

Well, I've got some bad news. It turns out that you’re not registered at the address you shared with us when you signed up for TrueMajority. That name and address is:

steve xxxxxxxxx
xxx xxxxxx xxxx xx
xxxx xxxxxx, IL 60xxx

Maybe we’ve got the wrong information. Maybe you’re registered at a former address. But maybe there’s an error in your file at your election registrar or you’ve been improperly deleted from the rolls. Why take the chance? You can re-register and make sure they've got the right information for you. To make it easy, we’ve set up an online system with our friends at Working Assets where you can register to vote with certainty and privacy. You just fill out the form, print it out, sign and send it in. You can then be sure that you will be allowed to vote on November 2. Deadlines vary from state to state, but they are all pretty soon, so do it now.

To be sure you’re properly registered, just click here: http://www.yourvotematters.org/TrueMajority

Yours in safeguarding the vote,

Ben

8. In NC, you can check online to make sure you are registered
so it must be public information.

17. thanks for that info Lex
I too recieved the email, and hoped there was an easy online check.

to all, keep in mind, unless you signed up with TM with the exact name and info, they only have that info you gave them to compare.
ie, they don't have my first name, b/c i don't go by it but am registered by it. So there's one discrepancy.

doesn't hurt to check all the same.

10. Go to your county web site
They should contact information for your local board of elections. They'll tell you if you're registered or not.

20. google your states Secretary of State office
Edited on Mon Sep-27-04 07:09 PM by notadmblnd
mine was Michigan Secretary of State. There was a link to the elections webpage on the home page for my state. Then it was a matter of entering my name /address to find out if I was registered.

2. Just go ahead and send in a new form.
There have been some rumors of nefarious doings around, people obtaining lists and sending in change of address cards for the opposition. It's not a problem to "re-register".

You can also check your county clerk and recorder's office; my county has a website where I can check my registration. Yours might as well. Check your local county, but either way, it won't matter as long as you hit the deadline now.

Call your Board of Elections to check if you are registered and why your registration was cancelled (if it was).

edit: I just went to check my email and I had the same message. I am definitely registered, I just check online.

7. There has been so much GOP fiddling with the voter rolls
that I think True Majority sent that out to everyone on their mailing list so we'd check to make sure some pusbag Freeper hadn't sent in a change of address form with our names, or some overzealous clerk hadn't decided that if you swapped 3 letters of our surnames around it would almost look like a known felon's name, etc. It's a service, and everyone should check and make sure they are registered at their home address, that their names haven't been tampered with.

The right will do anything they can to prevent us from voting. We have to fight for the right, and make sure they aren't able to take it away from us.

Call your local registrar. Make sure you're there. And VOTE.

11. That smells of setup
I wouldn't even bother responding to that email. Just call the local office and make sure for yourself. Who knows if the GOP isn't trying out there hacking skills (although I am POSITIVE they are slim to none) and massing emails telling people BS about the elections.

Call and make sure, don't send any of your info via email.

13. Call up your board of elections.
Edited on Mon Sep-27-04 05:20 PM by lizzy
They will tell you if you are registered or not.
Or could go on their website, some board of elections have websites that you can check your voter registration on. Don't delay, if you are not registered, there is not much time left!
But I wouldn't use that e-mail to register, something stinks about it.

14. I'm a True Majority member and didn't get an e-mail like that.
And my registration certificate is in my wallet valid until 12/31/05 with correct name and address. They'll have to physically restrain me if they don't want me to vote.

15. Did anyone receive this email?
Are You Registered to Vote?
TIME IS RUNNING OUT!

You've faxed officials with us. You've made calls and signed petitions after receiving our alerts. Some of you have even joined PFAW Foundation for rallies and volunteered to serve as Election Protection poll monitors on November 2.

But there's one action more important than all of these: voting.

The scary thing is that some of you aren't registered.

WHAT?!? Good citizens like you may not be registered?!?

Maybe you moved (even within the state)?

Maybe you just forgot?

Whatever the reason, don't wait another minute -- the deadline is fast approaching. Recent history has shown that every vote really does matter, and we'll even help you register.

http://electionimpact.votenet.com/pfawf/

In many states, you have only about a week to get your signed registration in the mail and postmarked. You can find out what your state's deadlines are at our website.

Go to www.PFAW.org and register right now -- or update your registration. All you need is a computer, a printer, an envelope and a stamp.

Voting is the most important type of activism. Register now to vote in the critically important November 2nd election.

Sincerely,
Your friends at People For the American Way Foundation

P.S. - If you have a question or problem with your voter registration, please don't hesitate to call the Election Protection Voters' Hotline at 1-866-OUR-VOTE.

27. Thanks, I went and apparently there is not an online verification
But, I did send them an email request.

I also got 3 other emails from various organizations asking me to register. I guess that maybe they are thinking along the same lines as I, there is no more important election in our lifetime.

PLEASE, EVERYONE, MAKE SURE OF YOUR VOTER REGISTRATION!!

Deadline for most places is next week.

We need to take our country back!
