I just recieved my California Voter Info. Guide
Of 58 counties, 49 have paper ballots, and 9 have touch screen/electronic. It says "Counties using touchscreen/DRE systems are required to have paper ballots available upon request"

2. that's cool.
I life in CA and I was worried that if they didn't have a paper option I would have to make a big freaking scene and demand to have my vote actually counted.

Now I can avoid that. :)

4. The problem is the central tabulator.
California does not do a robut enuf audit. Without it and in abscence of that audit...It is vitally important to do these things.

1. Get out and vote...take as many voters with you as you can. Volunteer with your local paarty to drive those to the polls that can't.

2. Sign up to work the polls election day.

3. Go election night to the central count and observe everyone who touches the central tabulator. Get names and who they work for.

4. Watch for anything unsual at the polls and at the central count computer. Even if it seems small it may be of great importance. Don't the the wranglers distract you. (Wrangler...someone sent to distract you)

5. Did I say vote?

Check in with www.blackboxvoting.org later this week...We are going to have information posted on what you can do to insure the election is run correctly.

13. oh they have plans in place
"Fresno County voters will have to wait at least two hours longer for election results in November because officials are concerned that terrorists could tamper with returns transmitted over phone lines.

Poll workers no longer will send the results electronically after the polls close at 8 p.m. Instead, drivers will transport the voting machines from as far away as Coalinga and Shaver Lake to a warehouse in downtown Fresno guarded by sheriff's deputies. Officials will take out the memory cards and download the results directly onto the county's election server.

Said Fresno County Clerk Victor Salazar: "Yes, it's going to take longer, but there are those who will attempt to hack into our computer system, so we're going to close down our points of access."

Concerns have been growing throughout the United States about the possibility of terrorists disrupting November's general election. Authorities arrested a Pakistani man earlier this month who they said was communicating with al-Qaida operatives about a plot to carry out an attack to disrupt the U.S. election."

15. From the Official Voter Information Guide from CA Sec. of State
"Security Measures for Touchscreen / DRE (Direct Recording Electronic)Voting Systems

In response to concerns about the security of Touchscreen'DRE voting systems, the Secretary of State's office has required these sytems to meet 23 additional security measures before these systems can be used in the November election.

These additional security measures require:

- That every voter be given the option of casting a paper ballot. If you would prefer to use a paper ballot instead of a touchscreen/DRE, you may rewquest one when you sign in at the polls.

- That the system's source code must be made available for independent analysis by independent experts.

- That no telephone, wireless, or internet connections are permitted on the machines.

- That the county engage in a comprehensive poll worker training program."
